Othin 0 Posted March 14, 2003 So I wandered into Best Buy today (first mistake) and decided I wanted to look at games (second mistake). Half an hour later I was dazedly stumbling out of Best Buy with a SaitekX45 combo, Forgotten Battles, Freelancer, and a 182 dollar hole in my pocket Anyways, what should I know about the game ahead of time? Are there any MUST HAVE downloads for it yet? The website is pretty confusing as to which downloads I need...

I looked on the page and saw that there were updates past 1.0 and made an assumption, thanks for the heads up though. Tough going so far, in between getting used to the joystick and all the controls, I usually end up getting lost or spiriling out of control to the ground Still tons of fun though! The training missions were made in version 1.0. If you've upgraded Il-2 to 1.2, they're ruined. *edit* There are lots of community made training missions available for download however, and no, there isn't a patch for Forgotten Battles yet so I suggest anyone who recently got the game should go through the training missions before they patch up. Oh BTW, you guys see the new damage model pictures posted on the il2 site today? Aaron Kane 0 Posted March 15, 2003 Something really cool I found while browsing through the FB files... There is a file called "DGen_Readme.txt" in the DGen directory which is inside your Forgotten Battles folder. Â In this file, there are instructions on how to modify your Dynamic Campaign, such as increasing air traffic or ground units, the average distance flown to get to your targets, and overall campaign difficulty. Cool stuff
Tovarish 0 Posted March 15, 2003 Speaking of Dynamic campaigns, how about an online Dynamic Campaign for Forgotten Battles? Check out the Scorched Earth website and make sure you watch the two trailers! (make sure you have time though, both trailers combined run to over 23 minutes! ) Their release date is listed as 6-8 weeks after the release of Forgotten Battles, and apparently they're testing internally with success. This should be a blast
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 15, 2003 Man, DCs rule. One of our most recent missions, my 8-man flight had to intercept a Soviet strike package of 16 aircraft. Sixteen! 8 P39s from a Guards regiment, and another 8 I-16s. We got lucky and managed to cut about 8 of them from the herd, and after shooting them all down, we decided to cut our losses and head home. Final score: II/Jg52: 8, Commies: 4 Not too bad, but not good enough.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 15, 2003 I'm having trouble saving my mission tracks. It seems like every time I try to save a track, the game freezes up and I have to kill Il-2 and try again. This wouldnt be so bad, but the only time you can save a track is directly after the mission but before you apply the results to your DC. This can make for some screaming/keyboard-throwing sessions

Othin 0 Posted March 16, 2003 My career as a German aviator so far.  Needless to say I need a bit more training.  I wasn't expecting that much torque  I think I actually crashed right behind where I started taxiing.  It was a blur, what with all the skidding along on one wing and all.  I'm somewhat disapointed in the training missions as they're just movies.  Oh well, back to the fray! Â Oh well, back to the fray!<span id='postcolor'> Are you sure about that? In IL2 the original, it starts off as a movie then you get to take control after the AI has demonstrated the correct way to do the training mission. For example, if your taking off, the AI will do it the first time then you have to do it. Maybe this has changed.

Not going to now because I'm damn tired, stayed up playing longer than I should have and I work tomorrow Well, after 16 days of fighting the Luftwaffe over Leningrad, we were sent on our first mission over Finland, escorting a recon plane. I was kind of nervous because I knew we'd run into either the Brewster Buffalo or the Morane, and I really didn't know what to expect from those planes. As it turns out, the seven of us were attacked by 11 Buffalos, and well....I was a bit underwhelmed . A few minutes later it we were all flying back home and Finland had 11 less Brewster Buffalos. (didn't they only recieve 30-40 from the US? Ouch! That had to hurt! The one thing that surprized me about the Buffalo was that it seemed to have better low speed maneuverability than our I-16's. Other than that....these things were more fragile than the MiG-3 used to be in IL-2! At least the MiG had the courtesy to catch fire for a bit when it was hit, I accounted for two of the Buffalos myself and both simply exploded after a 1 second burst from 6 o' clock at close range! I would have shot down a lot more if the rest of my flight didn't down them just as quickly. *edit* oh by the way, promoted to Starshiky Lietnant and awarded the Gold Star of Hero of the Soviet Union

In parts it slows it all the way down to 1/4X- is there a way to change this? No problems though if you select manual tc. edit: ah crap, while I was messing with the file I managed to corrupt it. Looks like I'll have to film a different mission...

Aaron Kane 0 Posted March 16, 2003 Well I restarted my campaign as a German pilot. Now I'm doing the Central campaign, and I changed it so I'll get a FW190 as soon as its available, and use it for the rest of the war I've come to the conclusion that I16's are invulnerable to the MG17 rounds. I dont mean highly tolerant, I mean completely invulnerable. I've seen BF110's and BF109's empty their entire load into an I16's wings without so much as a scratch...
