Which makes me think of something I saw on a documentry a few weeks ago. It was Russian paratroopers pre-WW2 parachuting out of a TB-3 Bomber. They were riding up top so they were getting off by climbing onto the wing and sliding off. It was just a really funny site, all these paratroopers sliding off this wing.

I don't see how that makes the la-7 "worse" . It will be interesting to see how the Spitfire compares to the Yak-3 when it shows up. I don't recall the Luftwaffe ordering it's pilots to avoid dogfighting Spitfires .<span id='postcolor'>

they wernt ordered not to fight them just discouraged not to fight them below so many meters, there was no actual order. The yak3 was descrided by sum LW pilots as the spitfire of the east, cant rember where i heard that tho. The spit wouldb e nasty tho, this thing is better at high alt than a 109, and down low it can climb with a k4, hitting power equal to the p47 2 cannons and 2 heavy mgs, and turns probly similar to a yak3.

Ok...so not ordered, directed . I was just responding to the fact you said the Spitfire would "reign supreme", and I simply pointed out that no such directive had been given to Luftwaffe pilots about the Spitfire .

I wouldn't expect the Spitfire to turn quite as well as the Yak-3, after all, the Yak-3 was the smallest and lightest of all Allied fighters during WWII. However the Spit had better armament and longer range, and I would expect better high-altitude performance. I'd really like to see it in IL-2, it was my favourite fighter in Aces over Europe, and by all rights, the number of Spits used on the Eastern Front justifies them much more than the Mustang. Note of interest though, the Spitfires used by the Soviets were phased out as soon as enough Yak 3's and 9's became available.

The P39 goes into a spin so easily it should have been called the 'top'. Even with Oleg's joystick settings, the P39 is still an awful fighter. Good for ground attack, though, so long as you don't have to do something like, I don't know- turn  

Not to say the P47 will turn on a dime, but it's got a huge engine to get in, get out, and get away

Major Aleksandr Ivanovich Pokryshkin  and his "Top"

"Alexandr Pokryshkin was one of the greatest tacticians in the Soviet Fighter Air Arm. He approached air combat in a scientific manner, learning much from the memoirs of French WW 1 ace René Fonck, Mes Combats. Pokryshkin would eventually develop to the second most successful fighter pilot on the Allied side during WW 2. During the war Pokryshkin was 3 times awarded by Soviet Hero Title (Gold Star). He flew total of 550 sorties, participated in 139 air combats he scored officially 59 enemy planes. But in opinion of some historicans his killboard list should be enlarged by next 13 victories, scored in battles over Kuban. During free hunt over German territory he downed a row of enemy planes, but in that period Soviet Command confirmed only planes destroyed over own area.

P-39 was a favourite weapon of Pokryshkin, he still flew on that type, when his all 9th Fighter Division was already all reequiped by La-7 fighters.

Note of interest: The most successful fighter pilot on the allied side, Ivan Kozhedub, flew La-5's and later La-7's. He had 62 kills officially, and that dosen't count 2 P-51 Mustangs that mistakenly attacked him over Berlin.

Well, I either need to find a good profile, or make my own, because the default control scheme is suck. The cannon fir button is above the default POV hat, and every time I reach for it, I look out the left side of the AC! The rudder is a little too touchy, and there are a buttload of controls that dont do anything. I dont think I am going to bother changing it all around now, but it's going to be a must once I get FB. Now to load up an oldy but a goody, Mig Alley from Empire (Well, I like it anyways )

Look way back near the beginning of this thread, Dayglow posted a link to Oleg's stick settings. They work like a charm believe me, I couldn't hit the side of a barn before and after I copied and pasted those settings into the config file, I feel like a damn sniper. Other than that, the button assignments are very easy to change and becomes a matter of personal preference.
