Kreinzer 1 Posted January 5, 2017 Has there been a viable solution for the memory read/write crashing? Back in 1.64 I used profiling/performance builds from Dwarden's thread which reduced crashes to 1 in 2-3 hours of gameplay. I recently got back to the game, downloaded 1.66 and no matter which 1.66 profiling build that I try, the game randomly crashes within 5 - 40min of joining a server, the official 1.66 isn't stable either. I play Exile on CCG and The Walking VoiNoob mostly. Screenshot: Any help/info would be greatly appreciated, thanks! I then properly reinstalled every mod on the list but the crash is still here. Any suggestions please? Additional info: - Pagefile: Initial size:12115. Maximum size: 18150. Had it on either an SSD or HDD. Now it's on C:\ (SSD) - Launch parameters: -nopause -world=empty -skipIntro -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi Old launch parameters: -high -nopause -nobenchmark -world=empty -skipIntro -nologs -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi (I've tried JEMalloc and system too) -maxMem=6144 (tried 3071, 3072) -maxVRAM=3071 (tried 3072) - Performance info: I have no performance issues, no stuttering, no fps drops, just the bloody "memory read/write" crashes. Nowadays I mostly play on The Walking VoiNoob, an Exile Tanoa server, and my FPS is roughly 60+ in the jungle and 40+ in cities, perhaps even better, I rarely check since there are literally no performance issues even on a full server. Jawshy 13 Posted January 6, 2017 Hello, @Kreinzer. Does this issue occur when playing single player or other multiplayer missions? Here are some possible solutions that you could try: Try restarting your computer and then verifying the integrity of the game cache for Arma 3. Try playing without any mods. This is to help rule out a mod or mods as the cause of the crash. Try repairing the mod via the Arma 3 Launcher: Click "MODS." Click the dropbox arrow next to the mod to repair. Click the "..." icon. Click "Repair." 4 hours ago, Kreinzer said: - Launch parameters: -high -nopause -nobenchmark -world=empty -skipIntro -nologs -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi (I've tried JEMalloc and system too) -maxMem=6144 (tried 3071, 3072) -maxVRAM=3071 (tried 3072) You can remove -high and -nobenchmark as they are not valid launch parameters. Could you also temporarily remove -nologs so that errors may be saved to the arma3.rpt file? The maximum -maxMem value that can be used is determined by your operating system and game executable. See the link for more information although, you should not need to specify -maxMem as the engine will attempt to do that itself. Issues can occur when -maxVRAM is set above 2 GB so try lowering it to 2047 or remove it all together. arma3_2017-01-05_08-46-10.rpt: Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at AB0C89CA Try all of the possible solutions listed for that exception code on the Arma 3 Unusual process exit article. If none of those possible solutions help then prepare a troubleshooting report via the Arma 3 Launcher then upload and link to that as well as to the arma3.rpt file in the root directory of where the game is installed. Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 Just woke up, it's 7:25am. I will try this right now and will report back. As for the -nologs parameter... /facepalm :D I'll fix that now too.
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 I don't play single or multiplayer missions, just Exile. Ran the game again, another crash after ~35min Launch parameter changed: -nopause -world=empty -skipIntro -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi Everything from the link, regarding Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at AB0C89CA done. Verified all of the mods and game cache. Dump files: bidmp link mdmp link rpt link Note that I didn't turn off all of the mods in this test. I ran the mods required for playing on The Walking VoiNoob, just to see if the changes I made would work. If someone could take a look and maybe find something useful in the dump files, that would be awesome! Thanks in advance!! For the 2nd test I'll run YAAB continuously with no mods. If the crash occurs, it should occur within 1h.
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 Ok, without any mods I ran YAAB for about 1h and played the Tanoa campaign for another 45min, then just idled in the main menu, and no crash. So what's the next step? Aside from deleting all of the mods and reinstalling them? Any advice?
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 Uninstalled all mods from the official Arma 3 launcher. Deleted the remnants from the workshop "content" folder. Rebooted PC Downloaded mods required on the server where I currently play (The Walking VoiNoob) Verified Arma 3 with the 166.139792 Profiling build. Tried the Performance build exe from Dwarden's thread 166.139792 Crash after ~20min of gameplay. Error screenshot: Dump files: bidmp dropbox link mdmp dropbox link rpt dropbox link Any help would be greatly appreciated, Mail
Jawshy 13 Posted January 6, 2017 @Kreinzer, if the crash is only occurring on one server and/or only with a certain set of mods then that may be what is at fault. Otherwise you could submit a report on the feedback tracker for the developers to take a look at. Simply link back to this thread as it already has a lot of the information they need including crash dumps.
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 It's not only on one server. It occurs basically on any Exile server, CCG too. Though I haven't played on CCG to test extensively atm. At this point, I'm more or less leaning towards thinking that I have an issue with one or more mods. But in posting here with all of the dump files I'm hoping that I might get help in narrowing down the problem and what can I do to fix it, while still being able to play on my favorite servers. I'm about to run MemTest and perhaps do a bit of tweaking in BIOS. Atm my HyperX Beast is set to its' XMP-2400 profile. I thought about trying 2133 MHz with 10-11-10-28 timings on stock voltage (1.65v), or to get rid of the overclock and just go with 1333mhz for testing purposes. Running out of ideas :D
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 Just finished the MemTest, passed all 48tests 100%, Kingston's XMP 2400mhz profile. I did get a warning "RAM may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips". But as I understand that is nothing to worry about, judging from the various forum posts I read on this issue. From MemTest's site regarding the issue: Spoiler Starting from MemTest86 v6.2, the user may see a warning indicating that the RAM may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips. This warning appears when errors are detected during the first pass (maximum hammer rate) but no errors are detected during the second pass (lower hammer rate). See MemTest86 Test Algorithms for a description of the two passes that are performed during the Hammer Test (Test 13). When performing the second pass, address pairs are hammered only at the rate deemed as the maximum allowable by memory vendors (200K accesses per 64ms). Once this rate is exceeded, the integrity of memory contents may no longer be guaranteed. If errors are detected in both passes, errors are reported as normal. The errors detected during Test 13, albeit exposed only in extreme memory access cases, are most certainly real errors. During typical home PC usage (eg. web browsing, word processing, etc.), it is less likely that the memory usage pattern will fall into the extreme case that make it vulnerable to disturbance errors. It may be of greater concern if you were running highly sensitive equipment such as medical equipment, aircraft control systems, or bank database servers. It is impossible to predict with any accuracy if these errors will occur in real life applications. One would need to do a major scientific study of 1000 of computers and their usage patterns, then do a forensic analysis of each application to study how it makes use of the RAM while it executes. To date, we have only seen 1-bit errors as a result of running the Hammer Test. There are several actions that can be taken when you discover that your RAM modules are vulnerable to disturbance errors: Do nothing Replace the RAM modules Use RAM modules with error-checking capabilities (eg. ECC) Depending on your willingness to live with the possibility of these errors manifesting itself as real problems, you may choose to do nothing and accept the risk. For home use you may be willing to live with the errors. In our experience, we have several machines that have been stable for home/office use despite experiencing errors in the Hammer Test. You may also choose to replace the RAM with modules that have been known to pass the Hammer Test. Choose RAM modules of different brand/model as it is likely that the RAM modules with the same model would still fail the Hammer test. For sensitive equipment requiring high availability/reliability, you would replace the RAM without question and would probably switch to RAM with error correction such as ECC RAM. Even a 1-bit error can result in catastrophic consequences for say, a bank account balance. Note that not all motherboards support ECC memory, so consult the motherboard specifications before purchasing ECC RAM.
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 6, 2017 I just had a 1h 10min run before crashing to desktop. Same error as in the screenshot posted above. Dump files: bidmp dropbox link mdmp dropbox link rpt dropbox link • Firstly, I reverted back to 1.66.139792 profiling Arma3.exe from the 1.66.139792 performance Arma3.exe (performance executable was advised on the Exile forum). • Secondly, I find this hard to believe, but could it be that I need more RAM? I have 8gb, (2 x 4gb HyperX Beast 2400). The reason I wonder is that I've turned off almost all processes that aren't required for Arma 3, which saved me 500-1000mb RAM (I'll double check once I try this again). I killed Malwarebytes, Skype, Nokia PC suite + other Nokia processes, anything Apple related, anything Samsung Mobile related, anything Hewlett Packard related, didn't have Chrome open, and minor other processes were also killed. According to Process Explorer I had ~5.5gb available physical memory before running Arma 3. Could this be the reason for the added stability, and my 1h 10min long session? Bear in mind that I didn't manage to run Arma 3 Exile for longer than 45min for ages without crashing to desktop. Again, any further help would be much appreciated. If I manage to keep CTDs to 1 per 1 hour of game-play, that would be bearable, but ideally I'd settle for 1 CTD every 2-3hours like I managed to achieve back in 1.64. That double, harsh "Nope" from the two of you was such a buzz killer... :D
Rodrigo Laureano Ferreira 1 Posted January 9, 2017 I've been having problems during the game these past few days. Everything was normal. It looks like there was an update and the game was unstable. I've never had a problem with ARMA3 ever since. Now the game breaks as soon as it starts or it does not last 5 minutes of game and date! In any mode. Memory error appears and the game ends and closes. I've tried everything the sites / forums teach and the problem has not been solved. Even I formatted my computer (Win 10 x64) I installed everything from the beginning, I downloaded the whole game again thinking it would solve and nothing was solved. I do not know what can be done. I tried all the tips of the Forums. I am an experienced PC user. Sorry, but I do not speak English. I'm using Google Translator. So strange English. Hehe Thank you so much !
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 10, 2017 Another sad update: • Tried deleting my Arma profile. • Added the "use large pages" into Windows registry for Arma3. • Tried using Process Lasso Gaming mode (running out of ideas...) And again, I got a CTD within 30-40min of game-play... Dump files:bidmp dropbox linkmdmp dropbox linkrpt dropbox link I've updated the first post to correspond to this one. I don't know what can be uncovered by going through the dump files, but if a CTD issue can be somewhat pinpointed I hope someone will look at the many I've posted sometime this year... no rush... omon 19 Posted January 10, 2017 +1 i get a slide show and then crash, some times i can wait out the slide show for 5 min then FPS recover. Game is unplayable as i get slide show every 20-30 min, if you ALT TAB there is 90% chance it will be a slideshow.
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 11, 2017 • Updated Arma 3 to 1.66.139938 Profiling build • I started playing with RAM in BIOS. As stated in the first post I got HyperX Beast 2400. I usually use the XMP 2400 Profile, stock voltage, CAS 11-13-13-30. For this test I lowered it to 2133Mhz, stock voltage, CAS 10-11-10-28 (it runs stable in any test). With this setting I got a crash in the Eden editor after about 15min, the message was a bit different from the usual error "0xffffffff", but I didn't screenshot it. However here are the dump files: Dump files:bidmp dropbox link mdmp dropbox link rpt dropbox link I've updated the 1st post to reflect this last post. Kreinzer 1 Posted January 11, 2017 Breakthrough? Playing for over 2 hours now, no crash. • I've deleted my Arma 3 profile once again due to the fact that A3Launcher was set to run my secondary profile. So now the game has just one profile, the main one. • I'm using the build 1.66.139938 Profiling (v8), which is the latest at the time of this posting. • I've switched to JEMalloc_bi. • Switched my RAM clock back to 2400Mhz 11-13-13-30, stock voltage. Will report back if I crash again at some point, or if this turns out to be stable.
Kreinzer 1 Posted January 11, 2017 Crashed after roughly 2h 30min Well, I'll have a 2nd go, if I get 1 crash per 2h of game-play, I'd settle for that any day of the week!
