Why was Casino so great? I've seen pieces of it and it seems like a silly film, not a serious one.

Plus, it has Robert Deniro. That's like hiring a clown to play in a mob film!

Anyways, I havn't seen the godfathers yet. But I hear they're good. I've seen Scarface, and that is one ROCKING movie!!

Road to Perdition was a good movie, but is not much about mobs, but rather about relationship between father and son.

I know it's not technically a movie, but I've been addicted to "The Sopranos" now for years.  What a great show.

Had to vote for Scarface which I've seen like 4 times. My opinion might change when I get to see Godfather trilogy again.

It's also strange, how can you vote 3 movies when topic say vote your favourite movie? Like some think for example that Godfather III sucked but I & II didn't how are you going to vote

As of late, I've been watching lots of Japanese mob movies (yakuza).  They're so much more violent than italian mob movies (watch Ichi the Killer, and you'll see what I mean), and the stories are better developed.  My favorite yakuza movies are Brother, Fudoh (next generation), and Dead or Alive series.

Robert DeNiro played the young Vito Corleone in the Godfather part II and the Godfather movies have been titled as the ultimate mob movie, so your analogy is somewhat ironic, downright stupid.

Scarface was a good movie, I liked most of it except for the cheap electronic music.

Maybe, but it's more fun watching a guy like Joe Pesci spitting the word f*ck in every sentence or some husky Italian motherfucker get shot in a pizza restaurant than watching a bunch of rice-eating fish sticks play karate. Sorry, Japs made some <sarcasm> nice movies </sarcasm> like uhm, err, uhm, Godzilla?. But they lack the classic characters and storyline we've come so long to appreciate : )

So did Hollywood, they made such mind blowing movies such as Dude, Where's My Car

People who don't appreciate foreign films are probably illiterate and can't read the subtitles. Oh ya, that Ring movie that’s doing so well, that was copied from a Japanese movie.

Lets add to that list:

The Magnificent Seven is a remake of The Seven Samurai.

George Lucas admits that Kurosawa's 'The Hidden Fortress' was one of his inspirations for Star Wars.

Even taking cultural differences into account, there are some truly amazing Japanese movies. Perhaps you've heard of 'Ran'? Amazing!

Of course, just like Hollywood, the Japanese film industry can turn out a load of dreck. The key to any cinema is being able to filter out the crap to get to the gems.

That, my friend, is one of the best questions I've ever heard, and you just met the right person to ask it to!

I get smilies like that all the damn time, especially Placebo likes them A LOT! He writes a sentence like this one: "You're number 1 on my list of people who are gonna be banned if they continue acting like that smile.gif " (or something similar)

Now my job is to figure out if that smilie means that he's just joking, or if that smilie means something totally different.

Man, i hate those damn smilies!!!!!

You never know what yur gonna get with those yellow bastards!

actually, it's called King Lear(yes, Ran is adoptation of King Lear by the great Shakespeare).

but there are some other great movies that are not from Kurosawa, like 'Poppya'(?) a movie based on a famous novel.
