Trackir

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting this device. Has anyone had any luck with the TrackIR and Flashpoint?

Thank you

It seems it would be great for looking around when flying.

Sorry. TrackIR is made by NaturalPoint

It is a device that allows you to use your head as a mouse. That sounds funny. Anyway, it looks cool and I've seen good reviews for flight sims like IL2.

Is there a pic of someone who has this tool attached to his head somewhere? Couldn`t find one.

I think it could be good for flightsims only. If I even imagine playing UT2003 with such a device my neck hurts like hell!!! All the rapid movements, ouch... sad.gif

I don't know how useful it would be for OFP unless you would want to move your head to aim the gun. I imagine it would be nice to have it act like alt was pushed all the time so you could look away from where you are moving, but it would then have to be a descrite input vs the mouse, ie mouse still turned you in the game, but you could look away from where you are facing. I don't think this is possible.

HMMM... I like my mouse and doubt whether an earpiece or a glove could compensate for it biggrin.gif I tried using a glove as a mouse(stupid, i know) and it felt really weird. At least with a mouse you know what your feeling and what you see is what you get. Expecially when you have a sexy wireless mouse that costs loads of money. Just like having a girlfriend, except better.

The p5 glove looks interestingg although a littlle far fetched.

Its getting to the satge where a mouse/trackball and keyboard just doesn cut it anymore and games will become limited by them.

ps, has anyone ever used a touch pad or lightun for pc ggames out of intrrest tounge.gif?? I would of though a high sensitivity pad would be much better than a mouse becuase it would be so much easier to just swish the pen over the pad an click>

I've had time to test the TrackIR. It works great with Flight Simulator 2002. FS2002 has DLL support and Natural Point provided the DLL. I'm VERY impressed. Virtual cockpit is the most amazing thing with the TrackIR. I read in Naturalpoints forum that they want to get DLL support for Flashpoint but may not be able to. If DLL support was available you could use your mouse normaly and look around with your head! In other words the TrackIR would be a seperate input device like in FS2002. How cool is that.

The only problem I've had is the cockpit in Flashpoint. Once I start the engine I can only look up and down. I then need to use the hat to look. Strange.

If you use FS2002 these babies are worth the money. If DLL support becomes available for OFP then I'll be a happy camper.

I got one from edimensional with my 3d glasses. you can get it for 99 bucks if you have the glasses or if you only want the trackir it's still cheaper than naturalpoint. i asked naturalpoint if they were going to have support for ofp and sure enough the new drivers seem to do the trick. took me a bit to get used to it, but now that i did it's a trip. with the glasses on it's like i'm standing just inside the front of the monitor and with the added depth and mouselooks seems to make aiming much easier and more realistic.

I've been close to order TrackIR but decided to wait until the mentioned DLL for OFP becomes reality. I think TrackIR would add alot to OFP if supported correctly and I really hope BIS will consider it.

I use Trackir for IL2 (www.il2sturmovick.com)

It is awesome to use and totally replaces a need for a hatswitch when flying.

Trackir is a mouse emulator - so, if the game supports mouse look, then Trackir will work.

If you can use a mouse to look around when in the helicopter then Trackir should work.

Here is what need to do:

Use a key that matches the key in the Trackir setup to turn trackir on and off. It's a toggle.

ie. I use F12

Within OFP, make sure nothing is using that key - you should be able to then turn trackir on and off at will.

Hope that works for you.

Also - I'm new to OFP and want to try out flying aircraft - are there any planes to download and try out?

Salute!

I'm not 100% sure since I don't have TrackIR but I think the problem is that when you enable the Free-Look (Num*) to view around using TrackIR you can't use your mouse to aim your weapon sight or change your direction while running.

The mentioned DLL would fix this and enable TrackIR to control your headmovements only while you could still use the mouse for aiming and body direction as before.

You are correct. DLL support would allow head movement separate from mouse movement.

Anyone form Codemasters or BI looking into this? This would be a great feature.

Hell im sticking with my optical mouse and multifunction keyboard. Only real thing would be in the apache when you move your head the 30 MM cannon follows your path.

I've also used mouse and keyboard and been playing since the demo was released spring 2001.

But also learned to never knock anything unless I tried it and TrackIR seems to be a much more intuitive (sp?) and more realistic way to control your view in both OFP and flightsims than the old mouse/keyboard combo.

I have a track IR, but I haven't configured it perfektly yet, I was just wondering, is it possible to use it just to move your head in OFP, in some review of Track IR it said: it is specially good for games like OFP where you can control your body independent from your head...

I understand that it is not possible to have an other mouse, but whith the Keymapping it should work, how ever when I configure it to the right keys(the number keys 4,5,6), it doesn't work, in Windows I can use it to write the numbers whith, and I can even set the keys in flashpoint whith the track IR, but when I start to play, it just don't seem to work, I have thought of something like if the keys are just tapped when I juse the track IR, but I don't know where to fix that...

Dubble0zero

Make sure you bind a key to activate the TrackIR. Maybe that will help.
