Arma's zeroing system? Any truth to this?

Recommended Posts

"ARMA's zeroing system uses a “+/- 49†system meaning if a target is anywhere from 750-849 the zeroing will automatically lock to him at 800.

“also remember that with your scope - range distance is set to be auto-targeted within certain meters by 49+/- of 100. Basically, 800: 751 to 849 ( I never fire at targets at *50)†Quote from [RG] Scarecrow (Lynch)"

Zeroing to 800m means that where your bullet hits at 800m (assuming a level firing angle and no wind deflection) is the exact centre of the reticle.

There is no +/- involved unless you're unsure as to the targets exact range or your target is at 770m, which would mean you would aim slightly lower as your bullet would impact higher that the reticle. Likewise if the target is at 830m you'd aim slightly higher as your round would impact lower than the reticle.

His terminology in that guide is shite, and his "auto-locking" doesn't mean the bullet automatically hits...I think he just means to say it how I have above only he's not quite as articulate.

The way you described it is how I play, but I don't think he is attempting to even describe what you are talking about. Very odd.

I'd love to see this guy explain the KSVK scope.

Cheers

Me or the guy who wrote the guide? I can give it a crack if you like :)

Don't get your tactical advice from random steam guides would be the obvious lesson here. For example they have a clear lack of understanding of the spotter's role.

I wouldn't take tactical advice from a game board regardless.

Game advice? That is something different. :D ;)

I would think by context you would know I'm talking about within Arma.

The only autozeroing I can think of was in ArmA2. There was a variable zoom scope that adjusted its zeroing depending on how much you zoomed in.

You just had to zoom until the enemy fit exactly between 2 mildots and it would be perfectly zeroed for that distance.

I believe that most people never knew about or understood this system. ^^

As far as ArmA3 goes.: For the m320 and lynx, using the LRPS, one mildot is 50meters so you can easily hit even at weird ranges like 1234m :P

miss the spirit of OFP in the actual scopes, knowing the multiples reticles for long head-shots, PSO-1 is the perfect example.

The only good use for arma 3 steam guides is how to make a pizza or brownies. That's all I see on there these days.

Are there any good guides out there for Arma 3? Especially for long range shooting? :)

  1. Spot the target
  2. Estimate distance
  3. Zero in
  4. Shoot
  5. If you know the rifle skip steps 1-3

I'd say 4. is

"Wait for the right moment"

Especially at longer ranges this becomes very important.

God Darn.

I got everything up to "Zero in", then it becomes "shoot a few rounds hoping for impact". :D

You need to load the proper bullets.
