Are my start up parameters correct?

Recommended Posts

Every single player I play with complains about lag and freezes, I don't care about plus 60 fps, the problem is in the last 6 months or so the lag drops have got worse. I can be totally still with no action around me and my fps will go from 50 to 1 then back up then drop and so on, it will do this randomly, sometimes every minute, sometimes every 2 or 3 seconds, the game has no stability. Adding the start up parameters made no difference, maybe they're wrong? In sig...

"-high" is some made up thing by someone having a laugh (you might as well put "-best" or "-ultra" for all the good it will do).  You can delete that one.

Also, what is tbbmalloc?

A custom memory allocator.

-exthreads=4 is not a valid value. You cpu's default is 7, as in 3 extra threads. So you might want to fix that in case the 4 messes something up.

OK, I removed the custom memory allocator, changed the threads to 7, tried removing all the parameters, no change at all I'm afraid. Starts off in game 1 fps, then creeps up and down slowly to around 25-40 then settles there, but if I dare to turn round I get stutters, running up twisty stair wells in fun.

Stratis is normal ok, can get problems, but very playable, Altis used to be fine, is now full of lag, predictably Tanoa is laggy hell. Do you guys get a good smooth experience? I notice after I close the game the pc is laggy for a while, hard drive maybe? I have recently installed a new one and that changed nothing but will an SSD help? Not that I'll get one just for this game.

The game streams data from your storage so if you only have HDD then it's slow as can be (plus if the HDD is quite full, it will add to slowness).

If you have an SSD installed already, then you could try moving your installation over to that as a test.

Ssd works wonders in case of micro lags and loading time, although I guess you already know that. But if you can't afford one try defragmentating your hdd.

Deactivating the steam overlay and turning off unnecessary programs also helps.I gain 2 fps turning of my second monitor . I bet Arma runs much better without 20 browser tabs open :P

Sometimes a restart of your PC helps to minimize lags ( micro freezes) if your PC was running a long time with different applications been used before.

Also, do you have any workshop stuff off Steam downloaded?

Sometimes if you DL something and then the author pulls it from Steam, then it sends Steam into a loop of trying to reacquire it while the game is open.

(You can see it in Steam where it's always trying to DL something).

If that is happening, then unsubscribe from ALL of your Steam Workshop content (it happened to me and that caused horrific slowdown etc).

Worst case scenario, try deleting your profile and making a new one.

This has been know to work when this issue has crept up in ALiVE. It probably won't do anything for you, but it may be worth a try.

about this topic I put arma3 on hdd (piggy back drive) but it runs from my ssd drive . basic info is have steam install arma3 on hdd, steam will start from ssd and load arma3 from hdd.

for the most part I get 40 to 120 fps depending on mission...

OK, I removed all addons and workshop missions, I added a few tweeks to my nvidia control panel, re added my fixed start up parameters, and lowered in game settings to a comprise between looks and performance. I now get around 30 fps in Wasteland with no action and 60 in Sector Control mid battle on Tanoa with a few freezes and just a little frame drops now and then.

I think the reason my fps is half in Wasteland compared to Sector Control is in game time progression, I noticed lag spikes when the time of day changed, does that sound right?

You really shouldn't be using mods and especially MP modes and then making threads complaining about performance.

Single player with no mods is the only way to test this.
