Double sided faces

Can this be confirmed please.I have a fence,a single sided plane that is allready textured.To obtain that texture on the other side i should

1) Copy the textured face

2) Paste it in the same position

3)Flip it by pressing W.

 

Do i need to "WELD" the faces somehow to create one unit or is leaving them as 2 ok?

yeah, i can confirm. i usually weld these just for the sake of reducing vert count, but otherwise is not necesary

Assuming the controls haven't changed all that much from O2PE, just band select the verts and hit Shift+D to merge (Weld).

You can also select the whole model (or parts) and then go to Points > Merge Near... The default value of 0.0001 will probably do the trick. This will save you having to do each weld manually.

does that have any real effect? vertex normal count would stay the same with 2 different smoothing groups on the 2 sides / hard edge between the two

lower vertex count but no difference in terms of vertices normal number. of course, unless you make it a single smooth group, which will lead to shading errors (vegetation excluded)
