Bordoy 0 Posted October 22, 2002 What do u think about the strike of firemen starting 9am next tuesday? i think that this is stupid and 40% is too much. And with Bonfire night coming up it shows they care more about money then they do about lives. My brother is now in Northern Ireland and ready to use the Green Goddesses. Mods- Dont close because this is to do with military seeing as the military will be acting as firemen and this is an important issue.

Here in Canada, anything that is deemed an essential service can be legislated back to work almost immediately in the event of a strike. Personally, I think it the height of irresposibility to strike when you provide such a vital service. You may have issues with your contract..but striking hurts no one but innocent people. And using that as a batgaining tactic is reprehensible.
Longinius 1 Posted October 22, 2002 Striking always hurts innocent people. Firemen, police and whoever else should have the right to strike just like the rest of us. What else are they going to do when push comes to shove? I know for a fact that firemen for example will put up with a lot of crap before even thinking about striking. So it has to be pretty far gone if they do. And while some might say its irresponsible by the firefighters to strike, I say its irresponsible by whoever makes the calls to force them to do it. Its actually quite funny. Firemen have one of the most important jobs in society but their pay far from reflects it. Same for social benefits and such. Placebo 29 Posted October 22, 2002 Old old news, they've been striking every couple of years for as far back as I can remember As for 40% being crazy, these guys are getting like Å9k(?) to risk their lives every day, I was getting Å13k to move pieces of paper around and surf for porn
red oct 2 Posted October 23, 2002 but doesn't the UK have volenteer fire fighters? if they do they have at least some help if a fire should break out in a house or something.

Bordoy 0 Posted October 23, 2002 But 40% is way too much, and this striking "could" cause many deaths </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Old old news, they've been striking every couple of years for as far back as I can remember As for 40% being crazy, these guys are getting like Å9k(?) to risk their lives every day, I was getting Å13k to move pieces of paper around and surf for porn <span id='postcolor'>

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted October 23, 2002 in germany all people paid by the government are not allowed to go on strike. They gotta sign that before entering into a work-relationship! Oh, great...then I wouldnt propose you start playing with matches.

Renagade 0 Posted October 24, 2002 The timings good too. Bonfire season a time where old farts complain about a few bangs ,stupid dogwalkers take their dogs out at night knowing there is going to be bangs yet do so anyway then complain, stupid kids hold airbombs in thier hands to be cool then cry when they blast off a few fingers then ppl say they should be banned cos of stupid kids injuring themselves ,the lowest type of fireworks aren`t on sale so ppl progress to the next one up to shoot everywhere and cops keep tabs on  deserted places then kids let them off in the street even more. gg bonfire night kk thx bye........ Bordoy 0 Posted October 25, 2002 Bonfire night is when the firemen get the most calls. Apart from the odd (big) fire. They get cats down from trees and play volleyball and drink coffee.
action man 0 Posted October 26, 2002 I think that if they don't like the pay and conditions they should go and find another job! After all it's not compulsory to be a fireman!!

FSPilot 0 Posted October 26, 2002 I think anyone who strikes should be fired (no pun intended). If you didn't want to do your work for your pay, you shouldn't of taken the job. Especially if youre a fireman, that's not the thing you should do for money.

FSPilot 0 Posted October 27, 2002 I agree, but it just doesn't go that way. A businessman sitting in an office makes a couple times as much as a fighter pilot, or a soldier. That's just the way it goes, I can't explain it. Besides, they knew what their pay would be before they signed on.
