Perhaps they're simply trying to get the deddy sorted out first?

Once we will finish beta testing of Win DS version (which is still our primary developement platform), we will relase both Win and Linux "stable" version again.

Looking forward to your feedback. It is beta ... so I suppose there will be some feedback.

Hmm... after installing it the server says "No entry 'config.bin/CfgMovesMC.vehicleActions'." when trying to load any mission and dumps be back to the mission selection screen...

I looks like updated 1.88 config is required. The quickest way will be to get config.bin and resource.bin from Windows 1.88 beta server.

any chace you could host those files somewhere Kegetys?

I cannot run the 1.88 on w32, so I wont be able to generate the files needed.

On the plus side for the linux ded, it compiled perfectly under the newer GCC this time around :-)

That fixed it, thanks suma...

Angry Radish: You only need to download the 1.88 windows server zipfile and extract it, the bin files are there.

Tolower now seems to be a C file instead of a C++ file and compiles with gcc3.2.

Gameplay is good (but 1.85 for linux was good too). I think the new one is even better biggrin.gif

Some minor points: Squad logos and #init command do not seem to work.

All in all good work BIS biggrin.gif

How does the Linux ded perform compared to Windows version? Does it use less system resources?

Would a server running a mission on Linux get better FPS than a server running the same mission on Windows2000?

Regards,

As with Lt_Damage can anyone please post their opinions on LINUX OFP server, we would like to move across to a LINUX based server for obvious reasons (OS Overhead etc), BUT b4 we do we need some feedback, i know i know, someone else do the donkey work but we are running a pretty busy server and don't have time to do the spadework ourselves, thanks and BIG RESPECT to BIS for giving us this........

Yesterday we tried testing the new 1.88 linux. Installed the win32 config.bin and resource.bin. Server went up. One clan member joined and he could admin, select missions, squad.xml was ok. He could play...

BUT when i joined in, everything froze! I thought it was me. But then I connected first, played around with the bots in  a DM, then my buddy connected. I could see him connect, but again: server froze.

Anyone saw this problem? (What of I read not...) What could be wrong??? Maybe we are doing something wrong with the server.cfg? Can anyone with a linux config post it here?

BTW: we use a dual pentium 700 with 512MB and 1Mbs dedicated line

We got everything up and running last night, but with some issues, and now I'm backtracking to a fresh install of everything, and only stock maps to do some troubleshooting.

Lag/desync was gone, and while my MOTD worked fine, etc.., it still broadcast my system hostname instead of the name specified in the cfg. We also had some issues with the server not necessarily crashing, but suddenly disconnecting every player, then saying it was ready for clients.

As I say though, I need to rule out maps, etc..for that bit, so I'm going to start from a fresh baseling and do some more testing.

I can't tell you about performance differences between 1.88w32 and linux 1.88, since we just switched from w32 1.46, but I can tell you that pings were much lower, and server fps were considerably higher. Once I nail down the source of the "crashes" I'll be a very happy camper.

We played for SOME hours yesterday and it seems the server runs faster with 1.88. I had very strange console output (error/status messages?) at least two times, i noiced it the first time when the server crashed one time and i switched to console.

That did not happen before, but all in all i'd say the new version is a big improvement. Squad logos did not show up but i noticed a w3chttp.out file in the server dir which contains squad.xmls of all players who played on the serverl?!? Also, many lines in those error/status messages contained URLs and Emails from squad pages, so maybe they are just status messages from the squadinfo routines of the server?!?

I have a dual boot machine, so maybe i can check on performance differences, but don't rely on it. Ports are described in the readme, you should accept incoming udp to ports 2302 and 2303, and generelly incoming udp from 2304. Outgoing udp from 2302 and 2303 should be allowed too. I'm not sure about the command line parameters, i got some with strings, but don't which of them actually work. You can use -config=server.cfg for sure.
