John carpenter's the thing

As I asked for help with models from The Thing, no one wanted to help me. Therefore I decided to make my own model. After learing the basics of O2, I am currently working on the monster... You should see the mod in about 3-4 months... And if anyone IS interseted in helping me out, then please e-mail me...

I looked at the webpage and what exactly are you making? A guy with 2 smashed faces? Transforms?

So you are going to model a soldier? Do you realize how hard that is and we can't change the animations yet and it will act like the rest of soldiers in the game.

You might want to start with something easier at first like a box, and thats actually harder than u think.

But Grade A on the imagination,thats what it takes

hmm, if you watched the movie or at least read the book, then you know what I am talking about... I see that there is a lot of young people here who don't know what real horror is about (not just cool monsters and special effects).

The Thing was a great movie, which I just recently watched once again and I believe it would make a great mod, 'specially on a Winter Island with complete darkness. None the less, if you intend to make characters from the Thing you should also check out some of the characters from the game, such as the GenInc soldiers.

Dunno much about modelling, but I would imagine something as complex as the Thing would be extremely hard to make and get ingame with O2...I mean, there aren't any animations that would work with something this complex, are there?

Anyway, good luck. The Thing is still one of my all time fave movies...

P.S. Anyone checked out the game?

I read this over at http://www.natosoldier.com/ The ability to edit animations is not far away.

October 01, 2002 at 2001 hours, Fliper reports in:

...on the official forums someone from BiS once said that "animation editing ISN'T POSSIBLE"... and today I'm proud to reveal that OFPinternals and me(FlipeR) broke this last limit in OFP editing!

The .RTM format has already been "known" for some 3 weeks now, but lack of time prevented any implementations - now the latest P3DEdit have the ability to load and show you ALL OFP aimations! The next step? Animation editing.

Yeah, the game is great. I'd love to get my hands on some Thing models and then a GenInc soldier model or two to make a mission on one of the winter Islands. Of course...it would be excessively cool if we could script soldiers to mutate into things randomly at points...hrm. wow.gif

just wondering why you will make a mod based on "The Thing" it have just been relesed for ps2 pc and xbox confused.gif not to dicourage you but i dont see the need for it. well i wish u luck on the making, im sure it will be good smile.gif

Because maybe OFP can do so much more than the game(The Thing) can and allow for...really cool stuff? Yeah, that's right. Adding the terror aspect to OFP.

Thing that would be nice for a Thing Mod:

The choppers they use(No actual clue what those choppers are...),

GenInc soliders,

Thing models,

new map(I know that this isn't likely, though it would be enjoyable to have a map with US Outpost nor 31, the Norweigan(sp?) outpost, the GenInc base, the big UFO, etc.)

Maybe an artic snow plower tractor-thingy that he used in the novel(alternate events leading to the end).

Personally, I was thinking how cool it would be to have a campaign set around the Thing, where you played as a Military team sent in to investigate the recent loss of communication from GenInc, the Norweigan(sp?) bases, and Nor 31. Then...stuff...could...erm...happen. Yeah.

Well, technically should be in A&M, because, I quote "Addons & Mods are for showing completed mods only and discussion of mod ideas".

"The Thing" is a great movie!

The only thing which bugs me: The Americans see these Norwegians going crazy trying to kill this dog. Yet, after the "incident" where the Norwegians perish, the Americans don't quarantine this animal? What kind of scientists are these? well, there wouldn't be a good story if that was the case I guess smile.gif

I believe that they didn't quarantine the dog because they thought that the Norwegians were crazy and were shooting at it for no apparent reason. Of course, I suppose that the dog was supposed to be kenneled much earlier than they had ever done it due to Clark being an extreme dog lover...

Well, I gotta get to work then... The head of the "human" (the one at the end of the movie, with it's jaws on the top of the head) thing is almost finished. I would need only someone who knows which parts of the monster do separetly (i.e. head, arms) and then connect them (how do you connect the body parts anyway?).

They are re-making "The Thing" not sure when it will be released though.

Oh, and it will not be a remake of the original game. This mod will take place on a small island near Russia... it happens AFTER the rescue team arrived! You will see what happened to the main characters... (i.e. MacReady will be in the mod!wink.gif
