chortles 263 Posted June 2, 2015 The pushing of official mod support is interesting in a nice way, but "PC-exclusive" suggests that a number-cruncher at 2K Games and determined that the cost of multiplatform development/publishing would offset multiplatform revenue enough to mean less profit margin than a from single platform's worth of revenue... I wonder how they came to that conclusion?
froggyluv 2136 Posted June 2, 2015 What ever happened to that clever little top down based strategy name with a similar name. That game was amazing .
Sniperwolf572 758 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm looking forward to this. EU and EW are amazing to the point where they used to consume my days. I find such games very rare these days. Hopefully they'll keep the good track record.

I wonder how they came to that conclusion? Probably very crappy sales on consoles. This is a franchise known mostly by pc gamers, not to mention XCOM:EU was a complex game and it being a TBS it didn't helped the console crowd being accustomed with plug&play games.Which is fine by me,more attention to the pc version. chortles 263 Posted June 3, 2015 On the contrary, according to VGChartz (change 78 to 79 or 80 for PS3 and 360 respectively) there's actually a rough parity between the three platforms on sales, which to me lends more weight to the idea that development costs could have been an issue, especially when PS4 and Xbox One weren't out as of the development/release of Enemy Unknown... as such, another factor could have been that historically turn-based tactics' (aka the Battlescape) has had a long history outside of PC but that modern non-PC success has primarily been on handhelds*, and Feral Interactive will be doing Mac and Linux ports too... this won't be a Windows exclusive. :D The screenshot of Ranger Noam Meir at the corner with ADVENT soldiers in the background suggests a similar GUI to that of EU as well, so I'm guessing that XCOM 2 will retain controller compatibility... which meshes with a presumable desire for SteamOS compatibility. * According to VGChartz the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 (not combined) sales of EU were outdone by Pokemon Conquest. ;)
krycek 349 Posted June 5, 2015 Pretty good read about procedurally generated maps: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/04/xcom-2s-procedurally-generated-maps-ign-first

Tonci87 163 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) I´m exited for the mod stuff and the procedual maps http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/06/09/xcom-2-mod-tools-editor-source/ I still have to finish XCOM with the long war mod, but the game always becomes a bit dull once the maps get repetitive. chortles 263 Posted June 10, 2015 I still have to finish XCOM with the long war mod, but the game always becomes a bit dull once the maps get repetitive. It's encouraging in turn to see that they not only took into account both "map repetitiveness" and the infamous scamper-on-detection into account when redesigning the combat (hence the "set up the attack"-type stealth), though I wonder (perhaps a little cynically) if the resulting gameplay change and plot were designed in parallel or whether the former forced the latter... I managed to turn off the scamper-on-detection stuff with a mod I think, an enourmous improvement to combat! When you storm a room the aliens will be cought out of cover and you will have the element of surprise.
chortles 263 Posted June 10, 2015 Exactly... and while there were ways to set up "stealth" in EU/EW to get first-shot attacks in, that isn't the same as a room storming -- to say nothing of the key difference when it's the players who are supposed to be the ones "infiltrating" while the aliens are the ones either standing out in the open or trying to find you.
