DarkLight 0 Posted October 4, 2002 One of the most scary and weird things just happened to me today. I go to school by bus, it's about 15-20 minutes by bus, close to my school there's a railway, a lot of accidents happen there, almost every year ppl get killed by the trains. Anyway, we were driving back home, the bus drove towards the railway and right before he reached it the 'alarm' went of. This means that there's a train coming, after a couple seconds, barriers are being dropped so cars can't cross the railway. Our bus driver couldn't stop in time so he tried to drive over the railway (the barriers weren't down yet), and right in the middle of the railway he stopped, there was traffic in front of him so he couldn't drive further. It was soooo fucking freaky, i was sitting in the middle of the bus, the back part was still on the rail, everyone in the back was screaming (well actually only the girls ). I've never heard screams like that before, there's a huge difference between a normal scream and a real scream I stayed really calm and i felt adrenaline getting pumped into my blood. Then after like 10 seconds of terror the bus driver was able to drive again. That was sooo damn freaky, it almost sounds as if i was playing in a Hollywood movie but this shit was for real. It's really weird to imagine that i could have been dead now It's very strange that i didn't even got scared... I have to remember this... Maybe next time it won't end like it ended now... ralphwiggum 6 Posted October 4, 2002 dumb ass driver. he should be disciplined. and better alarm system is needed... </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">It's very strange that i didn't even got scared... <span id='postcolor'> no, just means that you are able to hold your fear in case of great adversity. Die Alive 0 Posted October 4, 2002 I've heard that there was something like this has happened before, where the bus stopped on the other side of the railroad crossing, but the bus didn't go far enough ahead and 4 feet of the rear of the bus was still on the tracks, and the bus got smashed by the train. I'm sure stuff like this happens everyday (the close calls), but we just never hear about them. -=Die Alive=-

We would've ended on the rails anyway... I don't get upset very fast, thank god, i'd have destroyed my whole reputation if i had freaked out

Nagual 0 Posted October 4, 2002 Like ran said, your death will get you at any time, any place. There is no need to to be afraid of it at all, there is nobody in the world who can guarantee anyone will survive the day. Realizing that death is stalking you can be a very sobering thought. While riding motorcycles in an urban setting its very common to have serious close calls, at least one for each ride. Usually many for each ride. After a while you get use to living with the awareness of impending death.
ran 0 Posted October 4, 2002 death is a fatality , we can't do anything againt it , except retarding it of a short time

I was close to the middle, at that time the rails were about 3 meters away from me, not much at all. In our busses we have no seatbelts at all, the trian would drive right through the bus (and all the ppl in the back) but the shock would throw away a lot of ppl that weren't in the back part. Let's not forget about pieces of metal flying all over the place. If that train would've hit our bus, at least 70% would be dead. A train can drag busses and cars for like 100 meters before being able to stop....

Tex -USMC- 0 Posted October 4, 2002 Hmm, sounds a little bit like I felt when I was in a car accident (rollover). I had the adrenaline going, and it was all over very quickly. One odd thing though, that I wasn't expecting: if I hadn't been so worried about damage to other passengers and the car, I most likely wouldve been saying "That was friggin cool! Let's do it again!" I guess my point would be that you never know how you are going to react when you are put into a situation like that.
cybrid 0 Posted October 5, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">A train can drag busses and cars for like 100 meters before being able to stop....<span id='postcolor'> hell of a lot longer than that, try 1km or more, especially if the tracks are slippery or its heading downhill. I have an idea to turn this into a "whats the closest you ever came to death" thread. Ok, I'll start, I was driving my moms car ('92 Ford Crown Victoria) when I came to a bend in the road lined with forest on both sides. Well I'm not very used to curves because almost all the road is straigt around here. So i take the curve at about 100km/h and the car starts to skid towards the trees, somehow I kept it on the road and survived, but my heart was racing after that one. This other time I was driving the same car on a road going downhill and through an "S" curve. At about 80 the car started to hydroplane and skid half sideways across the road, and with a light tapping on the breaks I straightened it out. However there was a dumptruck coming up the other lane, so if I didn't correct the skid, death would be inevitable as the truck would have hit my driver door. Whats neat about this one is that I never felt tence or anything during the hole thing, just kept calm and let my years of racing sim experiance take over. About 30 sec I thought about what just happened and started to feel sick. The morale of the story is, don't drive a car with worn out tires, as hydroplaneing was the deadly element in both cases (well actually the first one was more stupidity than anything). And play racing sims all the time, there are ones avalible (Grand Prix Legends, Nascar Racing 4, Rally Trophy) that are so real that they'll help you in real life, no kidding, and I don't mean the shitty console games, like gran toursimo, or anything from the Need For Speed Series on pc. Major Fubar 0 Posted October 5, 2002 The closest I've come to death was about 5 years ago. The place I was working at dealt in automation components. Anyway, this dickhead driving a forklift asks if I can hold steady a 1.5 ton electric motor (about 4 times the size of a household fridge) while he drives over a gutter. The thing wasn't even secured to the forklift tines. I said "you've got to be joking mate". Anyway, he whined so much I said alright, I'll do it. Sure enough, the bloody thing falls off, right at me. If I hadn't been quick and jumped backwards when I did, I would have been squished like a bug. It missed me by less than 1 foot. So what does Einstein on the forklift say? Not "are you OK" or anything, he says "Why didn't you hold it properly?". Workplace health and safety? Yeah, right...

habdoel 0 Posted October 5, 2002 one time our scool went on fire (it was in the garage, i was learning how to become a carmechanic) in our magazin(englisch is very bad) where all the oil, fuel and industrial cleaning products where stored. A kid was going to smoke there because the teachers could see him there and woof, everething on fire! That kid came running out with burned hands, and face (his hair was almost totaly burned). Our teachers and me (wath was i dooing there?) could calm down the fire until the firearm arrived. After that we had to go to the hospital, because of the smoke of the products. After the incident we heard that we were very lucky that a couple of barrels didn't explode. my second meet with dead was a car accident, i was driving with a citroën zx on a country road, wen a piece of mud makes my back weel spin. the car spinned right into a small river, where he suddenly spinned on the roof. There i was stucked in the river, with a car upside down, i broked the passanger window, to get out of it (getting almost flooded by the water). I had just a little scratch from the braking glass. the worst part was telling my parents that our car was per total.
