Arma 3 Co-op: Vietnam -Devil's edit-

Recommended Posts

This is just a warning, this next update is going to be pretty big config changer. There's going to be a lot of classnames change. Be prepared for your missions to not work. I promise, this is going to make things easier on my end and hopefully your end if your scripts are classname dependent. I'll do my best to include documentation on what all changed, but that's going to all depend on the time I have so no promises.

Okay....well I've started making a couple missions already as well as a few from the previous version before you took over the mod. Any idea of when the update will be coming? I'd hate to invest too much time if I have to redo a bunch of things. In some cases I can use place holders for units but do you have an approximate release date for the next update?

Sorry to ask but I've been enjoying the mod and really want to just make missions and play the mod.

The Update will be within a week or so. The planned fixes for the 1.18r are as follows:

-FNFAL sounds now present within mod (as they weren't before)

-Classnames organized with a set naming convention (mostly)

-Fixed weapon box

-Added vietnam weapon box

The US Classnames are already set in stone so I'll whip up a text document soon to post those.

So, a brief update on the results of last nights classname update when put against testing:

-All US units now have the correct patches on their arms

-The Pilot, Armor Crew and Platoon Leader for the NVA (I added those) have their own special uniforms (don't ask me how this happened...I'm not entirely sure).

-The US box works fine, although I can't figure out how to get the old box to go away yet.

-The NVA/Vietcong box is still a WIP, but it works too.

Update coming later today. Already have the changelog ready:

1.18r

- Massive classname organization: see the documentation provided.

- reduced dispersion on pistiols and smgs so bullets no longer fly at 45 degree angles to the direction of the gun

- Added ammo boxes for both sides (vietnam box still a wip, but it's getting there) under Ammo

- You can now spawn empty Vietnamese vehicles

- Trained soldiers to not use backpacks with random launchers attached.

- Found missing FN-FAL sounds...(my bad)

- US and ANZAC now trained to fight the communists instead of each other when using MCC

- Correct patches now distributed to the US troops (don't ask me how this happened as I'm not really sure)

- Added Armor crewman to the US and NVA (WIP)

- Added leadership units to the NVA

- Renamed a bunch of units

- The USSR has now distributed RPK's to the NVA and Vietcong

- Smaller fixes not worth mentioning

Uploading has begun, will edit original post when finished.

Thanks for your hard work.

Is this also true for the pws version?

I'm not entirely sure. I'd do it just to be safe. The PW6 team don't seem to like my post, lol.

hey devil I got an idea maybe you can ask Toadie if you can use his FAL pack for the 1ATF (1st Australian Task Force)

On that note can you rename the ANZACS to 1st Australian Task Force which is there proper name

I may do that if I split ANZACS into Australian and New Zealand Counterparts, seeing as their combination is why they were listed as ANZAC in the first place.

well during the Vietnam the New Zealand infantry company where intergrade with the Australian Battalions a EG would be during the Second tour of 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment they had two New Zealand rifle companies attached to them and then they where re-designated as 6 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) Instead of 6 RAR and there clothes and gear are the same at the time.

a few things need to be removed or changed

-Resin the uniforms to colour Green the never wared tiger strips

-the only weapons this Aussie use where the L1A1 SLR,M16,M60. they never used M1 Grounds,M14s

-Remove the Flag that was never there until 2000s

I'm aware of the flags, those will be gone soon...hopefully... The weapon changes will happen next update. I'm saving the Tiger stripe for USSF, and ARVN, so it won't be going away just yet. Also, thanks for the info on ANZAC battalions. I'm going to try to avoid another huge config change, but those will definitely be integrated soon.

Hi,

Thanks again with your work on the update.

With the Communist forces, I'm surprised with the changes; the mod NVA have bandana and a mix of black top and Tiger Stripe pants, the Viet Cong have a uniform shirt with flag and some have helmets. If any thing that should be reversed. The Viet Cong were the guerrillas that blended with the population so they often wore civilian clothes which was often the famous black pajamas, the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) would have khaki or forest green military uniforms bush hats or helmets (pith helmet style). Both groups tended to mix and match uniforms with whatever they could find once in the war zone.

Some things I've noticed whilst looking through the addon:

- You have a duplicated directory, a3cv_weapons\m16\data (another data is nested inside it)

- M1911, Garand, FN FAL and maybe others exist inside \m16\ folder

- Duplicated textures in \m16\data\ and \m16\m16_data*\

- In the units' config, the array identityTypes[] = {"LanguageENG_F","Head_NATO","G_NATO_default"}; should either have the "G_NATO_default" member removed, or changed to "NoGoggles" - then the units will spawn without space goggles.

- Inheritance should be setup properly in units' config; no need to re-define things like scope, side, nakedBody and canCarryBackPack etc. Also should have base classes for the different riflemen, submachinegunner etc. and the separate faction classes versions can inherit from those. It would make it much easier for those attempting to add to your units ;)

There's more I'm sure, but that's all I remember now. I'm aware that these have been pulled in from all over the place so might not be your or Alduric's mistakes, but I thought I'd mention them all the same.

Thanks for the continued work on this project.

Kind of dissapointed with the Australian units having the Tigerstripe (pretty sure that was reserved to SASR/special units). Would have been better to have the jungle greens.

@dragon: Working on it. With the Christmas season, I'm finding little time to work on the mod. Plus I'm one person, I can't do everything. Alduric sends me stuff on occasion and I have a couple of community members willing to help me out, but ultimately it's just me.

@king: Thank you.

@Beazley: The weapon folders in general are a mess, I'm trying to sort out what I do and don't need for the next release. As for the units, I'll be sure to make note of the things you said.

@Cole: Tigerstripe was used by the South Vietnamese Rangers and Marines, as well as being adopted by US special forces such the Green Beret's, MACVSOG, and SEALS before being replaced by the 1968 ERDL Jungle pattern. I'm aware of this and will be fixing it soon. Like I said above, I've been busy.

General Mod update: I'm looking at adding content to the mod itself soon (within the next month or two). The 1.20r (release) version should include the T-34/85, T-55, ZSU-23, and MI-8. Hopefully Alduric can get me that new PBR, as well. Along side the armor, helo, and boat, I will also be adding some static weapons such as the ZU-23, DshkM, and M2. Most of this is courtesy of Reyhard for allowing me to use his excellent Tank and static weapon ports.

Thank you for your reply.

I did not intend for my comments to be criticism but observation. I am grateful for the work that you are doing on this mod and I am very appreciative that you have taken on support for it.

@dragon: Don't worry about criticism. I take it fairly well. I have set my priorities, and I just wanted to let you know that it's on the to-do list. I'll be sending you a pm soon. Hopefully when I get rid of this migraine.

Hi there,

Just want to say this mod has a lot of potential and thanks for continuing to work on it. The Community I'm in have recently used this mod for one of our operation nights on our dedicated server but we came across one noticeable issue which I hope you can help with.

When we start the mission every player & AI set on the editor have no uniforms and appear in their underwear. We tried a couple of methods to solve it from checking the mod version (included one placed on server) and made sure we didn't have a corrupt file. So after a little digging we found the uniforms are not set as uniform classes which cant not be found in VAS & VA.

After respawning the uniforms appear but only locally and every other player still appears semi naked lol.

Any help or advice would be great ;)
