Want to hire a Mod maker. Will pay!

Recommended Posts

I have a request for 5 things:

1) I want a couple of nice BDU uniforms done in Scorpion W2 pattern. (usual long sleeve, rolled sleeve t-shirt)

2) I would then like an assortment of helmets with headseats, googles and other goodies on them, in green, black and Scorpion W2.

3) An assortment of vests in Scorpion W2 (Vanilla plate carrier and tactical vests and chest rigs) and possibly a made from scratch IOTV (like in RHS)

4) Scorpion W2 retextures of all vanilla backpacks

5) This ones optional but oh god please! An M-110 in black and Tan with ASDG compatability. (High quality, not an A2 port)

I realize that some/all of these things are available in other addons. However, I want just the uniforms and gear. No extra fluff. I also realize that I am being quite specific and picky, but it can't hurt to ask!

I am willing to DONATE for someones time. Anyone know how I can edit the thread title?

I have requested this, a bunch of times in various places. I even actually thought I might try and make it myself, but I have zero knowledge and experience in that area. If someone makes the models and puts them in game, I can do the configs haha.

The reason I thought I'd offer to pay is because there are some great modders out there who work away for free. I thought I might snag one for this, and give something back to the addon makers that have given us so much great content for free.

Some (luckily small) parts of this community really scare and amaze me.

Most if not all of the mod community do there work for free because they enjoy it. That is why most modders and teams choose there own topics.

Dont get me wrong, the incentive to be compensated for the work itself is nice and all but might not create seriouse responses. I will just analyse what you are asking for and give you a heads up on how much work needs to be put into it so you know more indepth what you are asking for.

1: Lets say 4 different Unfirom sets, done correctly each individually modeled. 4 Lowpolys, 4 Highpolys, 4 texture sets including maps, Weighing 4 Models // around 4 weeks of work for someone doing it in there off-time, but only if the person can do all steps himself and doesnt need a secondary or third guy to do any of the steps for him.

2: Lets say 8 different sets of Helmets, as above, all in high and lowpoly with individual texture sets, though the weighing does not need to be done. // arround 2 weeks of work in off-time

3: The retextures would be fairly simple, given that you have a good clean Scorpio 2 pattern at hand, which we dont. The created Platecarrier would need to be weighted as well // arround 1 week off-time

4: Again, fairly simple but not good-looking without the pattern. // 4 days

5: Full weapon model, including at least a reload animation, low and highpoly and some config work. // 3 weeks off-time

So overall you are asking for about 10 weeks +-1 of work in total. Now considering that you are, as stated, picky, the quality needs to be rather high. Yes there is teams and individuals able to do everything you requested, but its is unlikely they will divert 10 weeks of there time and off there own projects in order to realize this for you. The best choice would be to learn everything, or at least half of the needed steps yourself. Thanks to the fact that this is a rather helpful community, getting tipps and support by other modders is highly likely, especially if you are looking to do something more then just reskins.

I'd say just lobby for RHS to add it, as they said they will add Scorpion W2 when it is introduced, so you could argue for it to added sooner rather than latter considering any war with Russia from now onward would just speed up the introduction of Scorpion and or Multicam which is currently in the mod.

if someone would count 20 usd/hour which is specialist salary in many countries (not minimum wage) * lets say 150 hours of work - than such addon can be done for 3000 dollars maybe, so does author agree ;)

i know people who can do it cheap, maybe 2-3 thousands dollars counting work hours as IT low personell has in many countries

Flutter,

Thank you for the breakdown. I appreciate that. It helps alot to know exactly what I am asking for.

Kaxii, I dont want RHS. (not for this anyway). I want a fairly lightweight mod that just adds the equipment. No editor content.

Nikiforos: I changed it, but I really don't see the difference. I want to hire someone.

Dennis: Thank you for your support. I mean, honestly, people could have just said no. Or ignored the thread. Instead everyone comes on and acts like I am a 2 year old. I have a feature request, and I am willing to DONATE (does that make everyone feel better?) realistically to get it in game.

Honestly, lets close this thread because it is no longer constructive.

I could of just said no, but whats the fun in that. Maybe I'm just an asshole or maybe I read the rules to these forums and respect them as such. You want to take my original post with a grain of salt, well that's on you bud.

i dont even know what to say. I thought it couldn't hurt to ask, and I thought I'd offer compensation since I was asking for something very specific and yes, high quality.

And now here we are, and I feel like I've ruined my reputation on the forums before I could even get one.

The road to hell is paved in good intentions. Sorry to anyone I've offended by this.

Edit: Further to this, Fluttershy, Let's say I forget the M110, and skip the new vest. What if All I wanted was retextures in scorp 2 of the vanilla content? How would that play out? Is it fairly easy to learn? What kind of software would I need? I have learned mission making, and some basic config.cpp (as it pertains to making factions and groups). Retexture seems like a good next step.

Dude chill... nobody here is going to "hate" you for this or anything... BI Forums are nice people. :)

Simply put, in this community people usually look down upon paying for production of mods, quite honestly let me give you some advice on this matter, if you want it done, find a specific modder or modders, and contact them directly... if they will do it, then "produce" that privatley, and if you wish release it with no mention of the "on commison" aspect of the mods production,

But really dont beat yourself up over posting this or some emotional shit, maybe you think the responses are immature, and I can understand that... but nobody is going to be like "oh look badadz the guy who wants to pay for mods" or something... So yeah, dont worry about it, people here are just giving you the honest response that its not something really done in the BI forums community, albeit maybe in a "cryptic" and supposed to be humorous manner.

Also in terms of learning to do the mod stuff yourself, retexture is not the hard stuff... someone else who does this more often then me can elaborate more if desired, but you may want to start a new thread in the editing section or something, I believe that is where that stuff goes, Good luck

Mate, I wasn't having a go at you or starting shit until you took my humour as me "treating you like a 2 year old", I could of gone ape shit seeing this thread in the incorrect section but I'm not that big of an asshole I decided to make a joke of it as I knew someone would correct you in your innocent error as people picked it up. Now its noble of you to offer compensation for the person whom undertakes this assignment just for now remember to post in the designated sections and for future reference laugh at my jokes or I will be very mad okay < (that was a joke too). All is well on the bohemia front.

If I can get paid what Vilas said above, I'd totally do it. Although I think 2-3 thousand seems a little high, but I don't know how much people usually get paid for this stuff.

I really can't understand some people..

Life is simple..and you guys complicating things that aren't worth being SO complicated.

Fact is lots of talented people creating random *stuff

The OP as it seems wants something specific.

Now..there is the way he could post in Addon request thread-where his requested addon most probably

will never see the light of day *ever*.

So..he wants it's addon between a specific time scedule and he is prepared to Donate to the kind guy who ll do the work.

Things just ends here..i m failing to see the "philosophical subject".

If any of you talented guys are interested..just say so-and make that guy happier..

On a more productive note, if you're good with Photoshop work, texturing should be relatively self-explanatory. Like some others have said, there are numerous guides that can start you on your way if you have questions or encounter issues. My only tip would be to do a lot of reading but take some example configs with a grain of salt (since they aren't exactly the most efficiently written). I'll ask a friend of mine if he's interested in doing the Scorpion W2 pattern and if he has swatches of it (but even if he says yes, the work may not be done in the most... timely manner).

TheMisterCat, it would probably closer to several hundred since this should be counted as amateur work (unless the modder had a nice fancy Modeling/Texturing resume).

That makes more sense, but wow, I never knew you could make a decent amount with models. Thanks for clarifying :)

Further to this, Fluttershy, Let's say I forget the M110, and skip the new vest. What if All I wanted was retextures in scorp 2 of the vanilla content? How would that play out? Is it fairly easy to learn? What kind of software would I need? I have learned mission making, and some basic config.cpp (as it pertains to making factions and groups). Retexture seems like a good next step.

First you would need a Layer-based Photoediting program, because it is free and offers all features needed for texturing i advise to use GIMP. (Because if you "borrow" Photoshop from the internet like these other unedjucated fuckwitts i will find your house and burn it to the ground, if you are looking to buy a license for it, your current beginners skillset would not justify the use of Photoshop over GIMP) There already is several templates out to use for reskins but i would advise against using them as they are below average and have a very poor amount of detail when it comes to the individual selections. There is a couple of retexturing tutorials inside the forums, the most popular one comes from Scarecrow398 - http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?148130-Arma3-Characters-Modding-Tutorial&p=2331073&viewfull=1#post2331073

Though i would advise you to not only get the _co to work inside GIMP but also the NOHQ as it is a more clean untextured variant once you turned it into a greyscale. Then you can look at the _co file and identify the individual areas and materials.

There is a couple of other things rather important to retextures that about 99.55% miss, like the fabric breaking the pattern on seams amongst other things.

The work itself is rather entry level but requires some basic understanding of the GIMP basic toolset, like layer masks, pentool and what not. Though it is still fairly simple, because you are not working from scratch and most work is done by the maps anyway. Again, if you are looking to buy a Photoshop CC License, don't, the Toolsets needed for texturing work without additional software are the same in both programs.

EDIT: Forgot to add, though obviouse, there is a lot of videotutorials on the tubes that you can watch for an introduction to texture work in game developement that might help you to get the right mindest, i personaly always look at the object and how it is build, different pieces of fabric, the particular fabric used and so on.

Right ok,

Flutter, will you gently take my hand and guide me into the scary world into which I shall soon embark?

Also, anyone got a scorp 2 pattern? I'll pay. <------- Jokes ;)

As far as my research went Scorpion 2 is similar to OCP in the basic Setup and is a 25'' by 60'' repeating pattern. In size it is a little larger then the current OCP. As i already said, the best way to start is get into some gamedev tutorials for textures.

This one for example:

/ dont mind that it doesnt have anything todo with arma or military assets, this is just to give you a basic mindest of texture work in game developement and some insight in the "why" of some techniques. Things like Logos and patterns fall under the point of single asset creation, which comes after deciding on an art direction (to create all assets similar and have a set workflow)

After that, feel free to add me on Skype and i can answer you a couple of questions as you go.
