doman 21 Posted November 21, 2014 Battle Command is a tactical wargame or even a professional war field simulator with full realism. It is made with help from US Army officers. In game footage: http://www.historicalsoftware.com/HSC/HSCmain_files/About/Battle%20Command%20Description_files/Annotated_FullScreenWindow.png (1446 kB) Players can create their own scenarios and play with collegues (multiplayer only). There are built-in scenarios too. Playtime can be very long (from pause to 1:1 real time to speeded up time). This simulation is demanding and needs some knowledge about military tactics (troops, motorized etc). After some time very powerful GUI is really intuitive and simple. I have played a few scenarios with my collegue and it was real fun. If you like tactical simulations this is really worth trying out. More info and details You can find on their page: http://www.historicalsoftware.com/ and in this document: http://www.historicalsoftware.com/HSC/Downloads/BC%20GFT%20Slides-F.pdf
Tonci87 163 Posted November 21, 2014 Well that definatelly looks like too much clutter on the screen. I´m currently trying to get into "Achtung Panzer" , or Graviteam tactics as it is called now. Reall nice WW2 simulator strategy.
negah 26 Posted November 23, 2014 Looks interesting though I guess Ill pass on it. I have enough wargames and not that much time to get into them. The usage of a 3d map for a wargame of that scale is an interesting idea though. That Achtung Panzer game looks also interesting, reminds me on Combat Mission, might try it out. If youre interested in such games I recommend you Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm. Here is a good review http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/08/wot-i-think-flashpoint-campaigns-red-storm/ It also has a map modification where you can better see the elevations. It also has a 1km grid and you can dl a winter version of it: http://www.cgf-ai.com/fcrs_map_renders.html
mr_centipede 31 Posted November 23, 2014 I have a battle command, but I think the 3d map is too gimmicky for actual use. the camera control is also quite a hassle (meaning something I'm not used to, it feels different from other games) but the overall idea is sound though. The battle itself is good. It's just that they could do away with the 3d map and use 2d map like Command Ops. The 3D map only show elevation. They are no 3d objects as in houses or trees or anything like that. So for me the 3d map is useless.
chrisb 196 Posted November 23, 2014 For me it is sort of similar to where ASL got with Vassal, in some cases with certain groups. It could be a very immersive experience, in a totally different way to this series. But for me, much of what can be done in these large scale war-gaming worlds, can be done here in this series, but even better here. Micro manage units, you can't do that in these larger scale war games.. This series is more personal when it comes to conflict and war.. I enjoy that far more nowadays..:)
