High resolution DEMs

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post my question, but i'll hope for the best ;)

So, i am looking for high resolutio DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) of Syria, Lebanon, nothern Iraq and so on. I've found some sites who offer DEMs, but mostly from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) with a 90m grid.

Is there even a posibillity to get hands on DEMs with a higher resolution like 10m or better for free and without looking through terabytes of rawdata?

But seriously, I have tried to find good data in a similar fashion, and I think its not too easy to find for free sadly :(

There was few for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, but would be very hard to make it work here

Well, there actually is a plenty of high res data, but 99% is US country and you need a master in geology/astrophysics/whatever to work with that data and know that to do :D

The best Data you ever can get comes from Trrasar-x. But as always the better the resolution you want to get the harder it will be that you can get it for free. As far as i know you can get high res data from all over the world. This is one distibutor of the data i know http://www.geo-airbusds.com/terrasar-x/

I have taken a look to this before. The library is called WorldDEM, former GlobalDEM i think.

generally you wont find anything of high res of those areas for free

ASTER GDEM its your new best friend.

30M resolution, good for coasts and more than enough for interior terrains.

Register and use "Search" to grab the tiles you need, they will have a really decent resolution.

Its not 10M but i doubt that you can find something better avaliable for public without burning your credit card

ASTER unluckily is full of artifacts.

Good news I just discovered: SRTM is publishing 30m data world wide since 23rd of September!

Confirm. For some areas ASTER GDEM is useless.

But you should check it anyway - maybe you are lucky

and this data will look acceptable.

There is company that cleaned up ASTER data and sells it for 0.15$ / square kilometer

( Altis = Lemnos Island would cost about 180$ ) :

You may ask them for small sample to compare it with other DEM products.

Or use this new SRTM ( you will not find anything better for free ).

BTW: if someone is interested in HiRes DEMS from central Europe - Poland just published

LIDAR data for almost the whole country ( resolution 1m ).

Buildings, forests and bridges were removed - its just clean terrain.

Here you may see WW2 artillery positions hidden in the forest ( along with trenches to the north east ) :

This data costs about 0.5E / square kilometer and it may be great as a source for

small detailed maps.

Intermap requires a Minimum Order Amount Balance so don't expect to spend that low.

For excluded countries or other continents than NA, one will have to use the new SRTM data if one aint rich :-)
