Best way to update Steam Workshop item?

Recommended Posts

I created a mission and published it as a Steam Workshop item.

Now I made a change and want to update the item in Steam.

I don't find a possibility to upload a new PBO file, what is the best procedure to do this please?

Thanks

Smo

Here's what I do:

I click on Save Mission -> Publish on Steam.

I choose the mission on the left that does NOT start with [unpublished].

I add my stuff, hit "Update" and it says "Process failed. File was not found."

Any suggestions?

You should choose the mission on the left that DOES start with [unpublished] (this is your updated mission) and publish that one. It will overwrite the previously published mission.

Really? For me it creates each time a NEW one then...

Solved:

The description was too long.

Solution:

Enter only a short description and changed it directly in steam after the update.

It all seems a bit messy compared to just providing a new pbo to be downloaded. As the Steam Workshop doesn't have much documentation, how are we supposed to know when we are doing it right except through trial and error. I try to avoid updating missions as much as possible.

Click the publish to workshop button, then select the previously uploaded mission from the list on the left and hit update (the button changes from publish to update).

That's it.

Yeah, it seems like the steam description options are pretty much crap. Not sure if this is still an issue but steam used to fuck up description overview texts. Normally, you can use structured text but uploading it to the shop and then downloading it again somehow breaks its interpretation. Well, at least it was the case when I last uploaded something to the shop a few months back.

Yes, Steam still f*s up all formatting when uploading to the Workshop, but you can fix everything when using the edit function later.

Yes, but as to my knowledge you can't edit the overview in another user's scenario menu. Those texts were also messed up.

This works fine:

You write the entire description in an external txt file (or a forum).

In the editor you update your mission.

Then you visit your item in Steam Workshop an edit the title and description.

@IneedPete: Whcih section do you think is not editable please?

What I meant wasn't an actual problem with the shop but with missions downloaded from it. The small overview text given as structured text wasn't interpreted as such so formatting was messed up and you could see the raw text including tags. However, I just wanted to take some screens for you but it seems they fixed it. As I said somewhere before, this happened to me some time ago so it's not exactly up to date. But what actually is still a problem is that the game (1.26) seems not to be able to interprete the campaign tag from content uploaded with the publisher; causing custom campaigns not to show up. There's a workaround by publishing them as addon.
