billytran 0 Posted September 11, 2002 I was in second period when the planes hit, of course I had no clue that it happened. The moment the principal at my high school found out about it he disconnected the cable television and internet access (except for teachers), then sent out a message to all teachers that under no circumstances were they to talk about it. Incidentally, my principal's last name is Nutt, which is quite fitting. Luckily, the people in weight training were watching TV as it happened so the information slowly got out from them. I didn't hear about it until fourth period. My friend told me "Jeez, everybody in the hallways is talking about some planes hitting the World Trade Center." I thought it was some kind of joke, but then as class started my teacher announced that we were under attack. She thought it was bullshit to hide this huge news from us. I learned that the WTC towers were gone and that the Pentagon had been hit. My mind started racing... my uncle is a Captain in the Navy and he worked in the Pentagon. Through the rest of the day, my only source of information was from teachers who got it from the internet. The whole time, I was worried about my uncle. When I got home, I saw the footage on TV of the planes hitting and the towers collapsing and I just thought, "Oh shit this is bad." My mom told me that my uncle worked in the section that was hit, but that he had left the day before to inspect a submarine... so he was safe. For the next couple of hours and for the next week I was glued to the TV.
Jester983 0 Posted September 11, 2002 9/11 was a horrible thing. I dont think anyone wants to go through it again. I remeber this day one year ago as if it was yesterday. I was very sleepy that morning and I woke up around 6:45. I was just watching TV and thinking about going back to sleep when all of the sudden my dad came running into the room and jerked the remote out of my hand. I said "hey what was that for?" Then my dad turned to the news and I saw an image ill never forget. I watched in horror as I saw the WTC on fire. My dad told me a plane had hit it. Then me and my dad watched until we saw the second plane hit. I just thought oh my god whats going on? I couldnt belive it was terroists. It totally changed my life and the rest of the country. IMO I belive this incident brought America closer together than we have ever been before. This is a saying ive come up with myself. So I hope you enjoy. "Freedom. Its something that some countries dont have. Maybe thats why we were attacked. Because we have freedom. The Freedom to choose right and wrong. To live our way of life and the Freedom to speak our voice. When the WTC was attacked and people finally learned all the details and learned that there was going to be a war on terroism. America said in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night without a fight! Were going to live on! We're going to survive! Today, we have shown no matter what happends we will pull through. Well Im no poetic but thats just something I've come up with and I hope you all have enjoyed it. I will certainly not forget 9/11. Nor will any of you. I salute our armed forces and allies fighting along side of each other to rid the world of terroism. *salutes*

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted September 12, 2002 I would just like to add something that may be slightly inapropriate to post it today but still is worth mentioning. On september 11th many fire fighters died during the attempt to save people from Tower 1 and 2. Noone could have assumed that tower 2 would collapse. But once this happened especially fire fighters should have been aware that the same thing could/would happen also to the other tower. Heroes dont have to be dead, and many are because of badly prepared standards about how to treat burning skyskrapers. In Germany we dont really have skyscrapers but still we have a standardised method of how emergency workers have to behave in such a case. Manhattan, a district with tons of skyscrapers should have been aware and trained for the such an incident. Tower 1 was ready to collapse and if the heads of the firedepartment would have reacted accordingly many lifes could have been saved. The comparison of how many people were saved by fire-fighters and how many of them actually died in the attempt is unequal. Noone should have ever allowed the fire fighters to stay near the building after tower 2 collapsed. In all our sadness we especially should not forget of how many lifes could have been saved. Many of the fire fighters left their life because of bad-organisation. THIS HAS TO BE CHANGED in the future. Fire figthers are NOT Kamikazee workers! Their life too is worth saving! edc 0 Posted September 12, 2002 I think the firefighters were orderd to evacutate after the 1st tower fell. But a lot of them were high enough up that they hadn't gotten out by the time it collapsed.

When it happend our principal came over the intercom, and asked the teachers to turn on the tvs. we watched for most of the day. our whole school was just quiet that day, no one was really saying anything. today at our high school, we dedicated a newly built flag plazza memorial to the victims. We had the fire and police their, and we had a 21 guns sulute.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted September 12, 2002 Of course you are correct, and it is definetly not the best day to discuss that, but all this anger and sadness should not make us forget our own mistakes. As you know it took quite a while after the first collapse untill the second did too... a lot of lifes were wasted. They dont have to be dead to be heroes! ale2999 0 Posted September 12, 2002 sad day indeed. no critics to how they handled they situation. I dont think it is really easy to remain rational in those kind of occasions. They were saying that the large cause of deaths was because the firefighter's radios did not work properly so they could not communicate the mayday messages to the firefighters who were still in the tower. Apparently, the radios were the same ones they used in 1993, no one bothered to change the system in the 8 years until 2001. Tyler

ale2999 0 Posted September 12, 2002 guys untill now I never had a clue what was like being there in the buildings when all happened. I just finished watching a special on ABC channel that documented the work of the from the 1st explosion to little time before the 2nd collapse. It was awefull. U could hear bodies of ppl impact the ground right out of the lobby, u could see the chaos in the North tower when the 2nd plane hit, u could see the mayhem when the 1st building collapsed (All this from the lobby of the north tower). THis is terrible.

Col. Kurtz 0 Posted September 12, 2002 Well know I cna post what i originaly posted(but was deleted) Nothing can justify an attack on civilians, no matter what nationality they are, religion they follow, or the colour of their skin. I might of had slightly forgiven the terrorists if they had attacked a solely military target, but not even the Pentagon is solely military, civilians work there too. They directly attacked civilians with the intention to do so, so that is totlay evil and therefor the attacks connot be justified, even in the Americnas had gone and skinned Osam Bin Laddnes wife alive or something. I shall always remember these attacks, and the victims should not be forgoten, but they are not all heroes. Thye died, but they does not make someone a hero. There were many heros that day, but if you were sitting at your desk then a plane crashed into your flor and you were killed instantly, what heroic deed did you do? On one last note, Bush made a mistake. He said, we shall not distinguish between terrorists and those who harbour them. What about terrorsits in America? Even if we do not regard them as terrorists, Im sure there would be people around the world and in America that would regard them as terrorists. What Bush really meant, is we shall strike upon any one I and my Administration do not like.
