Urban MARPAT Soldier

I always wanted to do a quick urban reskin of the USMC Soldier so I sat down and did it today. This adds a new unit called Rifleman(Urban) to your USMC faction armed with a M4A1

that photo: http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad22/ksubee/MarpatUrbanCamo.jpg does seem to have color issues due to a bad camera shot, note that the green tint is also on the background

So I'd rather stick to completely unsaturated grey with a few brown pixels in it. And it should have way more contrast.

But I'm not sure if that pattern exists officially at all. So theoretically you could take the Arma3 route: just make up something weird and pretend "it's the future stupid" ;)

The only photos I could find of it that seemed to be genuine were that slightly bit greener. But not as much as mine. I kinda did that by choice to give it a bit more use in less grayer envoirnments we find in Arma :)

well, urban camo is in reality also quite useless as soon as you are in something only slightly vegetated. That light cold green tone is IMHO not helpful in any environment. And frankly it looks too much like UCP to recognize it as a different pattern. In concrete rubble, the UCP would actually be quite usable (although the pattern is still too small to provide substantially better camoflage in terms of dissolving silhouette and contours than plain grey).

could you link those photos you had as reference? Because I hadn't heard of that camo pattern at all before this thread and had to google for it. I'm not surprised by the existence of another new pattern however, considered how much ressources the U.S. wastes on camo patterns that are merely a risk for the people that have to wear it.

http://www.hyperstealth.com/coyote/P1010147.jpg yea there is a image for you as it stands now that looks no where near the same as the image i provided you. that is the real unreleased urban marpat uniform that was never used.

also try and create more detail in the uniform instead of just bloping the pattern on. like there are no pockets. i know that is a arma 2 thing. but you can use image effects to make pockets on the uniform :P

Much better color! But you still have to crank up the contrast by a good deal. Without making it much lighter though, it rather has to be a tad darker, in game all soldiers always tend to look way too bright. And watch the saturation, by increasing contrast the colors become too saturated, the brown could look too orange.

Actually, in terms of contrast and brightness, the first try respectively the helmet was closer to the reference, but not quite there, so you actually moved in the wrong direction, except for the color.

To match the brightness, try to find a pice of concrete rubble in game and check if it fits, that ususally yields much more realistic results than trying to stick too much to the actual real-world photo. In Photoshop the texture HAS to look rather dull and dark, don't get distracted by that.

Anyway I started looking at Russian urban camos to go along with the Marine. I thought this one I picked would be different choice from the usual M81 urban style you commonly see.

Yeah I've had a handful of messages in reverse about the texture and I feel it is better now then it was before. It is perect? No it isn't. I'm not great at textures but I do what I can do make it half decent unlike you and your comments :rolleyes:

i am trying to help you. by pointing out that you did a great job on the helmet with shading and the contrast but the body still looks like crap. should i say bad or poop instead ? and pointing out texture stretch and tear is part of positive feed back so you can know its there and to fix it. and my first thought on when i saw this mod was o cool urban marpat prototype coming to life again. now due to the way this is going with some body trying to help you out. i dont know any more. also im not going to come on here and tell you how to texture or to do your job. just point out what i think is good and bad but you dont like that so i will stop. good luck with your mod.

Alright fair enough you were trying to help, however saying "your texture is crap" doesn't exactly help. If I was you I would have said "Hey that helmet looks good but the body could be better in terms of XYZ, you could do this and that to make it look a bit better :)" See..much better :)

Anyway getting back on track, I had an idea to do an urban British soldier. I doubt the BAF ever made their own so I found this urban variation used by a eastern European country.
