How about a silenced svd?

Recommended Posts

I know this may be a pointless string with an incredibly short lifespan but... has anyone seen a silenced SVD?

There are plenty of silenced West snipers (PSG-1SD, M-21 Supressed, etc.) but I have yet to see a silenced SVD.

Granted, I'm not as familiar with the massive OFP universe as Mr. Frag + AvonQueen are, but the few searches I've made have all resulted in naught.

Anyone know if there is one out there, and if so, where a dirty potato-peelin' grunt like myself could find it?

Why should the West have all the fun?

VSS "Vintorez"

Here's a handy little quote:

"VSS (Vinovka Snaiperskaja Spetsialnaya = Special Sniper Rifle) was designed for special operations. Adopted by Russian Military and Special Law Reinforcement units in 1987. This rifle has integrated silencer and uses special subsonic ammo - 9mm cartridges SP-5 (special subsonic sniper cartridge) and SP-6 (special subsonic AP cartridge). With more precision SP-5 loads VSS provide a 75mm (ca. 3") 5 shots groups at 100 meters. SP-6 AP loads can pierce 8mm steel plate at 100 meters with heavy (16g) bullet with hardened steel core. VSS is intended for use at short and medium distances (up to 400 meters with telescope or up to 300 meters with night (IR) sight). Noise level of VSS is as low as 130dB, and is equivalet to noise of .22 unsilenced rifle. VSS was (and is) used in all local conflicts that Russian Army was involved in last decade."

Muahahahahaaa.... now why doesn't OFP have something like that?

-Begin Disclaimer-

Please note, this is coming from an inexperienced person that has yet to create scrambled eggs that a hungry dog would eat, much less anything in OFP.

-End Disclaimer-

Now that I have that out of the way, how hard is it to add a suprressor at the end of a rifle without pictures of such a thing?

(Note this is not meant with any ounce of sarcasm)

that wasnt the point i was making, i mean if such a gun has never existed, why make one? there are better addons out there that are real rifles and are better than the dragunov smile.gif

Fair enough...

... but are any of those avaliable for the East? I used the SVD as an example, as that's the in-game sniper rifle and the standardized rifle for the Soviets. However, if there's another option out there for the East, I'm very interested... SVD or not.

Any clue where either of those could be found?

The Russian .50 caliber sniper rifle you're referring to is the probably the KSVK 12.7mm.

ksvk.jpg

"The KSVK anti-material (or large caliber sniper) rifle was developed in the late 1990s by ZID pland, based in Kovrov, Russia. It is based on the SVN-98 12.7mm experimental rifle. Initially known as ASVK, the KSVK is currently used in small numbers by varius Russian Special Operation units in Checnya as a counter-sniper rifle, capable of penetrating a brick or  thick wooden walls and disabling terrorsists hiding behind it."

...that'll leave a scar.

I dont think there is a silencer for the dragunov, because the round it fires is about a century old (7.62 X 51 R) so there is no subsonic version available for use with a suppressor and the Russians have a far superior silenced rifle shown already, the VSS, which has twice the effective range of a 7.62 subsonic round. The PSG and the M21 both fire the 7.62 X 51 NATO and there is a subsonic version of this round for use with a suppressor.

Silenced SVD's exist. Dunno where they in1985 but recently a silenecer was introduced that actualy gave the rifle improved accuracy which is uncommon for silencers. Earlier silencer models also were mentioned but i have no idea were they ever fielded or not.
