Aa weapons lock

Recommended Posts

For the record my difficulty settings are on Veteran with everything disabled but Super AI.

Scenario: I have placed myself as the American AA soldier on the airport runway with clear horizon all around. I have placed a russian chopper and set it to fly around in my visual range (200-1000 meters). After over 50 attempts I find myself unable to lock the AA missile on the chopper.

I have tried this from the Russian side by being the Russian AA soldier attempting to shoot down and American chopper. The problem presists.

I'm aware people have mentioned this on a number of occasions but I never seemed to get an answer.

Not a single time when I press 2 do I see the enemy chopper listed as a target. I see a list of nearby buildings like "House at 5 o'clock...." but the enemy chopper which is flying right around me never seems to appear on my target list and as such I can't lock my weapon on to it.

Why is that ?

I have however noticed a peculiar thing. Whenever I press 2 to see a list of my targets, the enemy chopper like Mi24 let's say appears there for a split second greyed out and then disappears. I only see the option "0 - More".

I have pressed every key, whether it be next target, reveal target or lock target keys, but neither one seems to let me lock on to the chopper !

The most annoying this is that as soon as I put AA soldier under my command, he instantly detects the enemy chopper flying nearby, reports in its position and fires his AA missile hitting the target.

Is there some magical trick that the AI player knows that I don't that doesn't allow me to lock on to the air targets ?

Some final explanation would be helpful. Thanks

Have you tried the targeting mechanism described on the back of the Field Guide that came with OFP? It's also on page 15 of the manual.

I tossed those things in the garbage along with the box. Care to elaborate ?

When you're the AA soldier, why are you pressing 2? You should be targeting through the launcher site. Target designation is indicated by a square. Lock is indicated by another square, rotated 45 degrees, imposed on the first square.

But you knew that, didn't you? confused.gif

In veteran skill the white lock box is not visible, you just have to target it and trust it on being locked on.

I cut out the CD-key portion before I discarded the manual.

No Avon, I see no such squares but I know exactly what is it you're talking about. Let me show you:

In the first two screenshots I was alone, with no team members. Obviously the Mi24 is not on my target list as it should be. No matter what "target" key I hit, whether it be Lock Target, Reveal Target or Next Target keys, neither one gives me a lock. Everytime I fire the missile it goes off straight.

Now in the next two screenshots I assigned a soldier under my command. Notice how the "Mi24 at 12 o'clock" option appears now, but is greyed out and as such I cannot lock on to it.

Why is that ? If my team member was an AA soldier he would have acquired a lock immediately and shot his missile. I however cannot. I cannot do it no matter what combination I use.

Well, the AA launcher works fine for me... I put a hind flying, take an AA launcher, right-click at the hind through the sights, aim a bit off from the hind, fire and it hits the hind like it is supposed to.

It's because you have a misunderstanding of how the targeting process works. The menu is for designating targets for units under your command.

Of course, another possibility is that FADE has been activated and is slowly degrading the game features and performance...

How would I know if it in fact has ? Is there a message that comes up saying FADE has activated ? That's a retarded technology if you ask me. If the game detects it's a pirated copy why not just make itself completely unplayable ? Instead they have it slowly degrade in functionality ? What's the point of that ? It only confuses people.

BIS/CM purposely don't release any information on the internal workings of FADE. The best thing to do if you suspect that FADE might have been activated is to reinstall the game -- that is the only known way of deactivating it according to Suma. That's one more reason for not tossing out the manual.

advocatexxx, you are not as smart as you think you are, from my observations you take everyone here to be naive and low on IQ.

You do not have a copy of the game, at least do not make comments like "retarded technology".

I just tried it and the box did show. I did have to press the "reveal unit" key first though.

This is a very interesting discussion. I can get my AA to lock on one of my machines , but not the AT. The second machine allows both the AA and AT to lock. So, wa up wi dat?

Purchased v1.2 installed v's 1.3, 1.4, 1.42, & 1.46 on both machines.

BTW I have these machines on a lan using ICS to MP over I-net. I bought 2 copies of OFP (my son says I'm obsessed) so both machines could enter the same server.

The AT missile has lock in cadet mode...

And when it comes to the AA launcher, you aim through the optics view, klick your reveal/lock target button, usually right mouse button, and fire your missile when you are in the rear sector of the flying unit. The command menu has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the aquisition of a lock with the target.

Advocate you jag tounge.gif

Pressing 2 is so that you can target it for your team members, if you have no team members, you don't need to tell anyone to target enemies.

Right click once over the target with your AA. Then fire see what happens.

And you can't target things for yourself when you are the leader. You're the one whos supposed to be looking that them.
