yes, obviously you did everything right.

(You are running Vista 64 bit, without any service pack?)

Anyway, you can clean up your system from unnecessary background processes and improve the availability of large pages this way.

I've already added my profile to the list, and I've tried launching it as administrator without any success. i.imgur. com/n0k8Viy.png

Also when I use the LPManager while it being in the ARMA3 root folder, nothing happens when I hit "Privilege".

EDIT: Ok, I got it working. The solution was to launch steam as a administrator. I think it is because if you launch the arma3.exe from the folder it doesn't include the malloc=tbbmalloc parameter, and if you launch it through steam it doesn't launch as administrator unless steam is launched as administrator, if you get me.

You can right click on arma3.exe, go into its properties and there, click in all user settings (or something like that, it's the huge button on the bottom part of properties window), and check to make Arma3.exe run under admin privileges everytime it runs, for every user.

You can also create a shortcut on your desktop, using all the parameters and check into properties to make it run as admin.

... yes, i would, because the usage of large pages have some performance related advantages over small pages.

(see earlier hints about minimal requirements and how to avoid memory fragmentation)

ugh.... took me awhile to get the large pages to work... finally had to create a custom shortcut and make sure -malloc=tbbmalloc was the first line in the startup parameters... now it works

Using the altis benchmark by helo

bis malloc - 49

tbb malloc (sp) - 51

tbb malloc (LP) - 55

settings remained the same... using a combination of ultra and very high

AO and caustics, pip off

4x AA

7-9% is pretty accurate... have some instability from my overclock but that's unrelated I believe....

Yep, arma seems to be 'confused', if core params like -malloc or -cpucount are at later positions in the command line.

@deltagods,

this sounds like a .dll name conflict.

Probably an other application trys to use this specialized .dll.

Just terminate all arma sessions, rename the 'tbbmalloc.dll' to 'tbbmalloc_fa.dll' and use '-malloc=tbbmalloc_fa'.

This should solve the conflict, please let me know.

I have been using the tbbmalloc and GMF for a while but i just reinstalled Windows and was going to download it again.

However i noticed the "binary_safer_deref" folder in the github (It updated 3 months ago while the "normal" one updated 8 months ago)

Which one should i use or whats the diffrence? (Just curious since newer often means better)

Also, thanks for making both the malloc and GMF :D

i would suggest to use this one in 'binary' folder.

('safer_deref' comes from an attempt to fix an earlier issue, occured with servers in dev branch and is a bit slower because of additional checking)

I don't have much time to mess with it right now, I should be in bed, but I've noticed right off the bat the game is running better on average than it was.

Thanks to those involved in creating this optimization, it's definitely worth the effort.

This thread (and your simple reg tweak) is full of awesomeness. Have seen a considerable fps/smoothness improvement. Although i do usually have to reboot PC between Arma3 sessions or I fall back to SP after a minute the 2nd time (as expected i guess)

Question: Does your tbbmalloc and your regtweak (obviously with DayZ.exe instead) work with DayZ Standalone too? I have tried it, it works fine and utilises LP, but without benchmarking tools its not so easy to tell.

Assuming you have a 64bit windows OS and enough free physical RAM (8GB+), 'tbbmalloc for arma' should work for other BI games, which are using the same interface, too (Arma 3/2, DayZ ...).

The 'GMF' tweak should basically works for many applications, not only games.

The expected performance gain depends of some factors.

Generally, applications with large executable binarys, will bennefit most from large page mapping.

... there is a minor update for the tool LPManager ...

LPManager is now able to 'measure' the availability of large pages (continous 2MB blocks in physical RAM),

diplayed as: 'physical RAM LP avail.:'. Press 'Info Update' button to update this value.

Additional there is a new button 'ClearMem' for clearing RAM and restoring some of the fragmented physical RAM (experimental).

(Don't use this two buttons (or only with care), while arma is running, because it will temporary allocates alot of your physical RAM)

LPManager is now build as true 64bit application for two resons:

1. to overcome the 4GB limit, while counting the large pages on systems with lots of RAM

2. to be better prepared for the upcoming 64bit builds of arma 3 °°

Launcher is already showing min and max values for RAM as if the game was already x64, also VRAM, showing way more then 2GB.

minor LPManager update:

Added a button 'ClearMem'.

Try this button, if reported 'physical RAM LP avail.:' value is low, to 'defragment' some of your physical RAM.

Internally, it reduces systems filecache workingset, clears standbylists etc.

This cleanup process may need some seconds, verify the success of cleanup by comparing the values before and after.
