stealth2668 12 Posted August 17, 2013 I tried looking an google with no luck on how to do this, but can you give/take ammo from your ai squad? How would you do this? Also, how can you switch to another unit in your squad?
tomclothier 1 Posted August 17, 2013 Don't know about sharing ammo but you can press the "u" key to switch between units.
kylania 568 Posted August 17, 2013 Select a unit F2 for example then press 6 for Actions and tell the unit to Inventory.
stealth2668 12 Posted August 17, 2013 I did that but they always run to the nearest inventory (jeep etc.). Doesn't seem like I'm able to give them ammo from my inventory?
Smurf 12 Posted August 17, 2013 Drop the mags on the ground near the AI\send it to there => Actions => Rearm\Pick up. Yep, kind of clunky but it does the job.
galzohar 31 Posted August 18, 2013 With backpacks it's simple - Just walk to the backpack and grab what you want like an ammo crate. With inventory, the other guy would have to drop the item(s) first (if it's AI - then via command as explained by kylania. If player, then you'll have to talk them into it :D). Then, picking it up can sometimes get a bit tricky, but if you try hard enough you'll manage to grab it off of the ground.
stealth2668 12 Posted August 18, 2013 Hmm, for such an in depth and polished game this is a clunky way of doing it. Why haven't they made some sort of trade option where, when selected, the run to you and you can trade by dragging things from one window to the next. Instead of a "ground" and "player" windows it can be "Ai inventory" and "player inventory" windows. That would make more sense and seems pretty easy to implement. :(
2nd ranger 282 Posted August 19, 2013 Manipulating the AI's gear has become more frustrating in every game since OFP. In OFP you cold just tell them via the command menu to drop any weapon or piece of gear. Now they have to go to the nearest container which could be hundreds of meters away, or a dead body out in the open where they'll get killed. Sometimes the AI can't even get to it if it's near a rock or something, and sometimes the gear screen only opens for half a second and you can't use it. And forget telling them to pick up a weapon in the command menu - they prefer to go for that rifle that is 100m away rather than the one you're pointing at. Maybe the new distance thing in the command bar helps with that one though, haven't tried it yet.
SavageCDN 231 Posted August 19, 2013 @ASR_AI mod fixes this problem (in that AI will re-arm themselves when low with no input from player), however this feature is not working in Arma 3 as of yet due to issues with the inventory system.
2nd ranger 282 Posted August 19, 2013 Well the main problem is when you want to steal ammo from your AI team mates, so that doesn't help with that.
Baraz 10 Posted September 16, 2017 Suggestion for BI : Ideally, AI would automatically (by itself) grab a weapon and associated ammo off dead soldiers near-by (without breaking formation of course, if any). The system to trade with Squad AI and use near-by loot (including near-by bodies) should be much much more user-friendly. I wasted a lot of time yesterday in single player trying to give my guys weapons and ammo. Near a container, it is much easier, but you still have to use a menu three pages long (Inventory option could be in Action menu when aiming at a squad member). Or why not integrate in the vanilla version a system inspired from the epic squad management mods like GetTactical Interface and C2 Command & Control.
