Harnu 0 Posted August 5, 2002 Okay so I went to the doctor to get my sports physical. I take the eye test. I get 20/15 on my left eye. It's pretty good. Then I take my right eye, and damn, 20/30. I was wondering, is there any way to improve eyesight without the use of glasses or contacts? I remember something about Lutien (in carrots) and eyes. What does it do? Please help, I really want better eyesight for that right eye of mine.
Warin 0 Posted August 5, 2002 Short of actual surgery, there is very little that you can do. Most problems with eyesight have to do with the shape of your lens, and that is not something that can not be corrected with vitamins. Vitamins and such can help with certain vision problems, but not yours. Look into lasik surgery.
Harnu 0 Posted August 5, 2002 Hmmm. Damn. Not a big fan of surgery. Aw well, thx man.
bn880 5 Posted August 6, 2002 Keep squeezing your eye to the right shape. Not much you can do, and lazer surgery is still very risky (despite what most ppl think, it's not a real permanent solution).
ralphwiggum 6 Posted August 6, 2002 Lasik is the latest craze, but there are good number of ppl reporting side effects such as night time vision becoming worse and so on. so unless you get surgery, I say you are out of luck....but do eat many carrots though...not steamed. Literally. And have you guy heard of the surgery where they slit part of the eye, and insert a contact. Weird, internal contacts. They are supposed to work well. But I don't trust anyone to cut me in the eye.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted August 6, 2002 afaik, that kind of surgery is the last resort for someone who is REALLY blind.
timmy 0 Posted August 6, 2002 this is kind of off the subject, but is there any way or technique, to make you see better at night? And dont just say eat carrotts, i mean, is there any type of contact or surgery you can have.
SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted August 6, 2002 My aunt, who wore glasses, got eye surgery. Now she doesn't need glasses, and see perfectly. But a bit pricey she says. Carrots, give your eyes vitamin A, which helps the Red cones if i remeber right. If your eyes dont get vitamin A, you can loose your eye sight, or color blindness. USSoldier11B 0 Posted August 6, 2002 20/15 and 20/30 is pretty good vision, not enough to need surgery. Unless you want to be a pilot I wouldn't worry about it. I am one of those few lucky people to have natural 20/20 vision in both eyes.
SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted August 6, 2002 same here. All though some punk shinned a laser into my left eye.

And there's also this funny way to lower pressure inside your eyes temporary but it's considered illegal in most countries. It helps with my short-sightedness but not much. Harnu 0 Posted August 6, 2002 20/30 isn't all that great. Â It depends on the lighting. Â Sometimes My right eye is like 20/20, others its 20/30. Â It's all weird and stuff. and 20/15 is better than 20/
USSoldier11B 0 Posted August 6, 2002 hmmmm...I thought 20/20 was perfect vision. How can you have better than perfect? I guess I don't really understand the whole vision rating thing since I've never had to worry about it.

isn't there somethin' about not touching yourself in an impure manner?  But seriously... Laser surgery works best for severe nearsightedness, but usually leaves the patient needing strong reading glasses later in life.  If you're young then you wouldn't have to worry about that for a long time.  However, if you're very young then your eyes may continue to change until you are around 20. Whatever you do, if you spend a lot of time in front of your computer, try to get the biggest monitor you can afford so that you can sit further back from it. But don't sweat it.  Happens to most of us.

BTW, for most people nearsightedness gets progressively worse for decades, not just until 20.
timmy 0 Posted August 6, 2002 i think 20/20 means that you have normal vision, thus perfect. But 20/15 is a telescoped version, i think it means that people that have 20/15 can see an object at 20 feet that 20/20 people can only see at 15 feet.
timmy 0 Posted August 6, 2002 http://www.bgsm.edu/eye/cornea/2020.htm i found this 20/20 - Normal vision. Fighter pilot minimum. Required to read the stock quotes in the newspaper, or numbers in the telephone book. 20/40 - Able to pass Driver's License Test in all 50 States. Most printed material is at this level. 20/80 - Able to read alarm clock at 10 feet. News Headlines are this size. 20/200 - Legal blindness. Able to see STOP sign letters. . morbid 0 Posted August 6, 2002 It works kinda like this 20/20 means you can stand 20 feet from the chart and see what a normal (average) person sees. 20/30 means that while standing 20 feet from the chart you only see what a normal person would see while standing 30 ft from the chart. 20/40 : while standing 20 ft from the chart you see what a normal person would see if they were standing 40 ft from the chart. if you have ,say , 20/10 vision then at 20ft from the chart you can see what a "normal" person see while standing 10ft from the chart, in other words your vision is better than normal. so 20/20 isn't perfect, just normal.
