in arma 2, it got really annoying when people who had no idea how to do ANYTHING in the game start asking everyone how to play and to teach them pretty much everything about the game. its especially annoying when they try to take off in planes and helicopters in base and crash into their teammates. i want to play the game, not teach people how to play. thats what bootcamp is for. if they dont know a few things then sure ill teach them. one day when i was playing arma 2, there was this kid who had no idea how to play and i asked him if he played bootcamp and he said no and also said that it was too boring(bootcamp isnt for fun, its to learn how to play the game). needless to say, nobody wanted to help him. so here is my question. could you guys implement some kind of "bootcamp completion certificate" or some similar option for servers to allow them to deny a player from entering a server if he/she has not completed bootcamp?

Its not just that, also griefers, tk-ers and kiddies. I think that some sort of reputation system is required for the survival of the public MP.

And those of us who have played the series for the better part of a decade are forced to go through the tedious process of completing bootcamp just to play on servers?

Well administrated servers can choose to kick those who are plainly poor at the game.

Agreed. Adept players should not be forced to go through something designed for novice players. As Messiah said, leave it up to server administrators to decide who is capable and who is not.

Also, any kind of reputation system would be abused and would lead to judging based on reputation level. Basically the same thing that a rank system would do to the game.

People are going to kick players who aren't "any good"? We were all at that point at some time in the past. As long as the player in question isn't hacking / tking / griefing then let the player be ffs.

I cant believe admins would kick players for being poor at the game. Embarrassed to say the least, that is one thing I would never do, in fact I would do the opposite and actually try and help.

The reputation system would be a nice addition.

I wasn't suggesting that should be the solution, just that if people are that fustrated with it, and they own the server, then it's up to them to decide what they want to do about it, however retarded a solution it may be.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

It's not a bad idea.

You could have a set of Steam achievements, like complete a heli pilot course, "sniper" training, HMG training etc.

Then an optional config entry for server owners (or scripting command) that only allows players to use a vehicle or weapon if they have got the achievement.

That way, if a server owner wants to stop people jumping in a chopper unless they completed the course, they can.

Server owners that don't care for the system are automatically opted out and anyone can use any vehicle, or any weapon (as it is now).

Personally, I wouldn't use it, but there may be a demand for that sort of thing.

Dont like the idea as per the points the others have bought up.

But couldnt you say the playedKeys = {} is some what like this? shows that youve played certain missions, are they accessible to MP? not really looked into them that much. Can you add keys dependant on HOW you done in the mission? "BIS_SP_FD01_failed" "BIS_SP_FD01_done" "BIS_SP_FD01_Merrit"

This alone should be enough to encourage (new) people to complete the tutorials.

Veterans and people that like Anchievements can plain ignore it.

Win-Win situation.

I wouldn't go as far to lock anything like AA did, even as optional.

i just wanted to throw this idea out there but i guess it wasnt so good. im just trying to find a way to get people to go to boot camp because from what i have seen, admins dont like to kick people who crash helis out of ignorance. if someone could find a way that would be great.

EDIT: what if a guy joins a server and has not completed boot camp. he starts crashing helis and planes everywhere. admin notices and looks for his "bootcamp certificate/acheivement". he realizes he doesnt have one. bans him from the server for about the time requred to complete bootcamp with the message "go play bootcamp then you can come back". and if there isnt an admin, allow voting for him to not be able to use such vehicles.

still waiting for an answer from bohemia :P

i agree, that it would be better, if people who want to play online, to complete basic missions first, to get a clue how to play. But not to forbid them to go online if they want. There could be a warning message, when your willing to entere multiplayer for first time, like reccomending you, to play the basic missions first. You click ok, and if u want, you can go back to play them first, or browse for servers, and get a butthurt, about people calling you a noob, if you do some bs. :P
