Codename: Charon

by

CYRANO

Description:

You are a CIA operative, codenamed Charon, whose cover as a pilot for an island helicopter tour company has allowed you to ferry assets around the Aegean Sea, while enjoying the island life in your down time. It was fun, while it lasted...

Yesterday, an assassin's bullet ended the life of a influential politician on Altis. In order to prevent the chaos from spilling over to Stratis, the local government has instituted martial law and has begun deploying local militia to enforce the curfew and no-fly zone.

We have reason to believe Iranian agents have infiltrated the island and are using the crisis to target politicians friendly to western interests.

This morning a few elite NATO forces managed to get ashore before Iranian gunboats set up a blockade.

Your new assignment: Assist with escorting our allies to safety while a political solution is sought.

Features:

  • Five different, randomly selected missions, including over water insertion.
  • Dynamically spawned landing sites and enemy locations.
  • Fully functioning Operations Center for refueling, repair, and medical treatment.
  • Options include on-demand toggling of Day/Night operations and waypoint usage.
  • Ever increasing enemy forces.
  • Open ended: Play until you are eventually shot out of the sky.

Installation:

Extract the .pbo file to your Steam/SteamApps/common/ArmA 3/Missions folder.

Just spent about an hour on this mission. Great practice. By the way, I did have one drop-off mission where the grey waypoint marker was suspended in the sky. Thought I got a screenshot, but doesn't appear I did.

Thanks for the feedback. As to the suspended marker: Yeah, there is a function the script calls that is supposed to find safe places to land, and on rare occasions it defaults to some strange point in the sky. I may revisit the code to see if I can run a check against altitude and reset if that happens, but for now I have included the option to call for another mission when that, and one other little bug occurs, the other being the script failing to call a new mission on its own.

This is funn for those interested in this role! ...should be a practice requirement for MP game pilots (especially those auto-hovering ones, grr) Had a blast, thank you!

new beta builds are announcing undefined variables, and you have a couple in placeUnits.sqf. i came across was occasionally enemy territory or units were not marked on map, and also one time there were more units than seats, tried flying the first group back in hopes of a second trip, but they wouldn't get out at the drop-off while the pickup was still active

edit: always forget to mention im in the dev build, so theres that...

Nice mission. Play it yesterday and enjoy a lot. Good scripting and composition work.

The people I'm supposed to pick up will not board the Little Bird. They do get up from kneeling position to prone, and the civilian is twitching a bit, but they will not move. So this is quite a showstopper.

I don't know if it is due to the dev build I'm using or has any other reason (I tested without any addons of course). Would be great if you could check your code to see if you can do anything to fix it.

EDIT: Just tried again, it works, no problem anymore. I guess it was something bugged in the dev build.

My favorite mission in arma3. Combined with TPWS it's an epic transport mission. Any chance you could change the function of the script that finds "safe places to land"? Tight spots or even city blocks would make great confined areas. I've even managed to fastrope troops into and LZ and then just skipped to a new mission to prevent the requirement of having to land to skip to the next mission.

I had much fun with this, but as I landed my combat-damaged helo, my rotor fell off, which prompeted the sniper I just inserted to execute me. This stopped the show for me, but up to this point, the mission was very much fun and indeed well received piloting practice.
