hQWeedEater 10 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I did search and I didn't see anything on the first couple pages about this exact issue. specs Win7 x64 FX-8150 EVGA GTX670 32GB RAM(OC'd to 2,000mhz) I tried turning all graphics settings to low but I can't get more than 20 FPS max - a lot of times it will fall down and float around 8-12. What am I missing? The Editor also runs like crap... At first I just blamed it on a VM I was running in the background but it didn't change anything after shutting it down.. Edit: I just now saw the sticky and feel like an idiot. Carry on... Edited May 28, 2013 by hQWeedEater
Instynct 1 Posted May 29, 2013 Yep, welcome to another arma installment where the devs ignore the core engine issues. But they have no idea how many people are going to complain about this issue when it hits beta/launch.
pr0ph3tswe 1 Posted May 30, 2013 what render distance are you using? i got mine at 2k and 800 with my 8350 @ 4.6ghz, gtx670, and i get acceptable fps in multiplayer wasteland (30fps average) that said i do get good fps in the editor so there might be something else, like old drivers holding you back?
hQWeedEater 10 Posted May 30, 2013 Drivers are up to date. To be honest I've tried lowering all graphical settings to their lowest point including lowering the distance to almost nothing. It doesn't change my FPS at all. I can run on very high or low with distance set to the lowest settings and FPS virtually doesn't change. I'll wait for the next update or for the beta to release to try again. Just sucks I can't play the game right now :(
WalkerDown 1 Posted May 30, 2013 It's a known bug, your video card is not used completely, neither your CPU, so it won't make any difference if you lower the gfx settings. More details here: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=716 ...it'll be solved? We don't know, it has not been solved in the latest 5 years (it affects any previous arma title so far). zooloo75 834 Posted May 30, 2013 Scripts also affect performance too, so certain missions will perform worse than others.
hQWeedEater 10 Posted May 30, 2013 Well that is unfortunate. I'll keep hopes up for a fix in a later release. Thanks for the replies!
Spoonmann 10 Posted May 30, 2013 Scripts also affect performance too, so certain missions will perform worse than others. I've noticed this as well. Messing around in the editor preview with one or two AI results in my FPS staying above 60. Hopping into a multiplayer assault/domination server with the same graphic settings results in 20 FPS on average.
zooloo75 834 Posted May 30, 2013 Mission/Script Developers must make sure they optimize their content in order to keep performance at its peak.
Spoonmann 10 Posted May 30, 2013 Mission/Script Developers must make sure they optimize their content in order to keep performance at its peak. Indeed. Since we're still in alpha I'm sure the combination of BIS optimizing Arma 3 and mission/script creators streamlining their work will raise FPS over time. WalkerDown 1 Posted May 30, 2013 I get 99% usage on my GPU and over 80% on my CPU your BS is old. Yes, when you'll wake up please read the first row here: http://feedback.arma3.com/plugin.php?page=Vote/list_bugs ...especially the number of votes. ;)
chrisb 196 Posted May 31, 2013 The number of votes! yes anyone having major problems with fps or performance in general would make their way to this forum, just to make some kind of contact with BIS. It will seem to many people the only way to get their point across and reach out to the devs. However, 1400-ish votes from how many sales of A3A do you think ? What if there was a line below that vote, for players to vote that are not having a problem, how long would that be I wonder, well who knows. There was only around 8000 members on this forum when I joined around a year ago, probably more now, but still only a very small percentage of the player base as a whole. So even if every member was having a problem, there should be at least 8000 votes, that would probably still be low compared to the player base. Its a great shame some players are having problems with performance, lets hope you or BIS, find the reason why. But don't make out people are lying when they say they're not having problems with performance. Below are a few pics, out of many I have, these are tests showing performance and fps. On my YT channel (A3ai) link below in sig, there is a break down of performance/fps/core usage/ai, I get using my A2 machine and thats getting a little old now, but its a well maintained machine that handles Arma 2 very well and now handles Arma 3 the same way. It’s the same with the whole series, this forum makes up a very low number of the overall player base, single figure fraction probably, don't be fooled into believing that the vast majority are having problems with performance, its more than likely the complete opposite.. ;) http://imageshack.us/a/img842/383/arma320130319104142.png http://imageshack.us/a/img14/7909/arma320130319103605.png http://imageshack.us/a/img831/3203/arma320130311234557851.png http://imageshack.us/a/img51/2646/arma320130312025510191.png http://imageshack.us/a/img585/9307/arma320130311234548572.png http://imageshack.us/a/img546/931/arma320130311232832659.png http://imageshack.us/a/img832/3103/arma320130412210935459.png Performance has increased since some of these were taken, most all dev versions..:)
hQWeedEater 10 Posted May 31, 2013 I didn't post this thread to complain or call out the devs I was just looking for some help... Anyway I came back to this thread to say that changing the the dev version of the alpha seems to boost my FPS... for any of those like me having issues =\ Edit: I feel like I should add that my FPS has gone up from 15 to about 30 frames consistently. I also saw a "fix" on youtube to edit the Arma3Alpha.cfg file and change the "GPU_MaxFramesAhead" value to "1" I'm not saying this is a fix by any means but it has boosted my performance a good bit. Still not an ideal FPS for play but not bad. Again I did not post here for any other reason besides seeking help with my issue.
progamer 14 Posted May 31, 2013 I think the devs are going to release a lot of optimizations with the beta
bangtail 0 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) your in denial kklownboy.... I doubt it, he's been around a lot longer than you and has a working knowledge of PC hardware. He consistently tries to help out forum users as opposed to maintaining that there is some massive conspiracy going on to stop certain gamers from enjoying A3 to it's full potential while calling anyone who claims that A3 runs well a liar. ChrisB is 100% correct, you and your ilk are a microscopic fraction of the people that play (and enjoy) this game. Edited May 31, 2013 by BangTail
