How to make a private game with aircarft for practise session?

Hi

I'm a total noob having just installed arma 2 on steam today. Been playing company of heroes and bf3 so fancied a change and can't believe how lovely this game is and how it passed me by for so long. Thought it was the poor mans battlefield but I now realise it's the other way round.

Anyway I wanted to have a few practise hours with a mate that's also just got the game especially flying helo's a nd planes.

So my question is whats the easiest way to create a private game for just me and my mate with at least 2 helos and 2 planes so we can both fly around together before getting out with tzhe pro's

Further to the above.

Cant seem to work it out, have started a campaign t he harvest one and hosted it and mate has joined it. But when we get to the first helo on the carrier the pilot just says waiting for other players? And the ai guys are just sitting in the briefing room?

Anyone give us the heads up, really frustrating at the moment...also how can you skip intro scenes?

You could always set up a mission in Editor with a few Aircraft of your choice on the Airfield, then just mess with them from there.

Go to editor, put at least 2 playable characters, and all things you would like to try. Save -> Export to multiplayer mission.

Launch MP, host mission you made, wait for your friend to join.

Oh, and if you're using mods, he will need to run them as well.

Right we have both just downloaded the basic game from steam for £7.99 so both have standard edition with no add ons.

I went on youtube but all the vids on there are all talking about in depth editing.

On the editor screen I see a list on the right hand side for units etc.

when i select units, then class i can change it to air and then place planes down after selecting control i select player as pilot.

Whenever i place down x2 jets and go to preview, i am already inside one jet but the other one has an AI bloke in it who buggers off with it.

How can I set it up so both my mate and me can fly the same jet/helo on the same sides online, without any AI?

You have to choose the category 'empty'. There you will find all vehicles and objects in the game.

If you choose vehicles from Blufor or Opfor they will spawn in with units inside.

Remember to put down one soldiers as player first or the empty tab want show up.

Just one thing that I cant test till my mate is online in an hour. will we both be able to go on the same side or is there an auto balance and if so can it be turned off?

dont want to spend all night like last night trying to get it to work so thought I would ask now

it has no auto balance, if you set the guys to both be on the same side they will both be on the same side.

i have put 1 man down as a player and another man which is the same side blueop, and he is playable (i assume my mate will be able to be him?).

I'm still getting AI taking off in the jets and when I select 'empty' I then only have 'non playable' option.

The 2 jets i have put down I can't get into either?.....this is really frustrating ;(

When you select Jets from BLU/OPFOR, AI will fill the positions, so you can't get in. Just place them down as Empty, you don't need to set them to Playable, you'll be able to enter them in the mission.

Non-playable means you can't use it as your avatar. But you can use your avatar (human) to take control of vehicle. You control crewman, crewman controls vehicle. When you set crewed vehicle as playable, you choose specific member of crew as your avatar. It's actually quite logical

You are the man!!! Thanks very much just spent the last hour flying all sorts with my mate having a scream....specially when I shot him and he turned into a crow!!! Whats all that about lol

Turning into a Seagull is normal, its been like that since OFP as part of the spectator mode.
