pang 0 Posted July 15, 2002 just read this list, so i thought "oh, cool the rotary machine guns now rotate, ill check this out" so i went into the editor, created an vulcan with me as gunner. i shot from 1st person. whatcha think happened with the "rotary" machine gun? yes, you´re right: NOTHING "ok, ill try that with the cobra" i´m the gunner: "yeah, the machine gun rotates. BUT it doesnt move to the direction you aim " seems you guys fix bugs, in replacing bugs with other bugs i really feel FAKED by CODEMASTERS and BIS. cos i spent 30€ on a version that is soooo fuckin buggy, that you guys should give the players 30€ in playing it, at least. my version does freeze, it lags and eats up ALL my memory. i dont even want to talk about the bugs ingame. well, SUMA, i dont know, if CODEMASTERS forced you to publish this version, or if you guys just cant programm. i really feel sorry for having to write such an post, but cant longer hold back my opinion. i have an 800duron, 256ram, 64gf2mx, win98 and i think that should be enough to play such an game. Sorry for that. From what you write it looks like you are experiencing some serious compatibility problems (crashing). Did you experience such problems with OFP 1.46 or before? Did you try to send us some crash files?
Guest Posted July 15, 2002 pang: Too bad that you are experiencing these problems. You have to understand however that you are in minority. If you want to blame somebody for bad programming blame the people that wrote the drivers for your hardware or even perhaps (questionable if it is their fault) the people that wrote Microsoft's DirectX framework. As for the small bugs that are present now and then in OFP or Resistance you have to realise another thing. The complexity of the game engine and system of OFP surpasses most games ever made. With the open design and great ambition that OFP has there are bound to be bugs. This is a very well known general pehomenon in software engineering. BIS has acutally made an amazing job minimizing those bugs and providing a constant supply of patches and improvements.
pang 0 Posted July 15, 2002 look, you are that absolutely right, EVERY game has a couple of these compatibility problems. but if i take a closer look at your trubleshooting and bug report forums and just count the AMAZING number of threads (128pages since ofp-launch), it seems like ofp and resistance would be STUFFED with bugs. man, i didnt intend to be offence, when i gave that quote about your programming skills, but imagine how someone feels, who spends money to get such an buggy game. that is the reason, why this game now bugs ME , you know? surely you guys may be the first who take gameplay to such an level, by creating a game with the ideas of ofp, cos there has never been something like it before. i always looked over those, mostly minor, bugs; because of that. i mean, what caused driving me crazy is the point, that many, many players cant even play ofp: resistance, because there are these compatibility problems. its simply the policy of, i dont know if BIS or CM, of kickin a game to the market. about the crashes: i never experienced such problems with v.1.0 till v.1.46. the thing is that the game always freezes in mission editor, which is very weird. there seems to be memory leak or something. the editor worked fine in version 1.46 second is the sound- loop problem. i disabled hardware acceleration. it seemed to be solved, but when i played the campaign (which was the reason i bought ofp:r) the problem apeared again and i cant play on, because you cant order you team anything, when the sounds looping over and over. by the way, this only happens with voices. i spent HOURS with searching your forum for a solution. Guest Posted July 15, 2002 As I said, I am sorry that your Resistance doesn't work. All I can suggest that you mail the crash dump (.rpt file) to BIS at support@bistudio.com and they will have a look at it. I can however say that while moderating these forums (which means reading all posts) I got the impression that the vast majority of the Resistance users have had no problems with it. I know that I can speak for myself that I consider my 30€ to be well spent money As for the sound-loop problem, if I recall correctly, there was sombody else who had that problem. I can't direct you to the thread since I don't know it by heart, but use the forum's search function and you will probably find it.

(and BIS would probably have run out of money) I prefer the patch solution as long as there is such an good support.
pang 0 Posted July 15, 2002 well spy17, if OFP wouldnt have been released, i wouldnt be angry now no, just kidding... denoir, ive got the tip that says disable sound hw- acc from this forum and as i said, it seemed to be solved. but then it reappeared. so i think it must be an error (with some peoples configuration/ compatibility and the programming). I admire BIS for adding so many new features so often... and I don't mind getting them so early that we actually get to test them, to get them working 100% later on. This is what i enjoy the most, being in on new developments, to keep me entertained. I got my dollars worth with OFP... and more.
grayghost 0 Posted July 15, 2002 Hey, pang, this is a problem I've experinced personally with various games ... something that sounds similar to yours. Hit ctr-alt-delete. Is there a program called Devldr16 running? If so, kill it and that -may- fix your problems (it fixed mine...for whatever reasons) Just a suggestion, I have no idea wether that'll help or not.
Mister Frag 0 Posted July 15, 2002 In case you are wondering what DEVLDR16 is, it is part of Creative Labs' driver set for Soundblaster cards, and provides SoundBlaster support for 16-bit Windows and DOS programs. If you don't need this (and who does!, get rid of that junk. To do that, go into Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Sound and Audio -> (Sound card model) -> Properties and check the "Disable This Device In This Hardware Profile" checkbox. pang 0 Posted July 15, 2002 ok, friends and neighbours, i calmed down now thanks for that tip grayghost, but i dont have any program nor driver like this running on my system. i just hope, that BIS kicks out a patch soon, and that this one will solve my issues with OFP:R
ALDEGA 0 Posted July 15, 2002 pang, I don't understand, you get that angry because the vulcan gun doesn't rotate? I can't believe you say the entire game is crap, because of this? I bet you don't have any experience with programming.
pang 0 Posted July 16, 2002 oh man, come on! i didnt get mad, because of the vulcans not rotating! that was just the final reason for me to go crazy. you know, there was written, that this d be like "a really cool new feature" and i had to realize, that there are even more bugs now -like chopper gun turrets dont move. and yes, you re right i know a shit about programming. the thing is that you even dont have to, to realize that there s something not working right. got me?
