Hello everyone,

today I stombled over a certain kind of an issue. It is about Beta (DevBuilt Beta).

Everyone has the possibility to set steam in the Betaupdate mode, to always have the latest DevBuilt beta installed.

This is quite handy for hunting down bugs and stuff but on the other side it might lead to unavailable servers if a Server has either the new or the old version installed. So I´d like to get an estimated impression of what the Community is thinking about this and whether the majority is using beta or stable. So please vote the poll and let me know what you think about this.

There are 2 reasonable "workarounds"

1) everyone should opt-in for development updates

2) BIS should drop the development updates, and just release them as stable updates so everyone get em installed by default (without any Q&A, people finally has to understand this is Alpha and #1 priority is to test/report issues)

If you want to stay with "Stable build" in current situation, then there is no point for devs to release the early dev. updates otherwise it will be mess like now in multiplayer.

I will upgrade my setting later to auto-update with devbuilds, if I can see that the majority of servers are running with devbuilds. Heard that mixed versions is what is causing the seagull spawns on another thread here.

Always run the latest dev patch, This is an alpha designed for testing. If people simply refuse to update their game because it may hinder their gaming experience then we get nowhere. I don't think they should have 2 versions, push the early dev updates to everyone. If the game breaks for a day or two then it breaks. It's an alpha for a reason it's meant to be buggy and unplayable at times we are supposed to be testing not gaming. This isn't a Demo or a Beta expect things to go wrong.

Come on guys, this is a serious question...ok..I messed up the poll a little and cant edit it anymore...anyways..everyone knows what I mean. At the moment roundabout every 20th user who gets into this thread is voting...this is a pure bad result

the 4 Vote options in short again:

1) yes, I use DevBuilt Beta

2) Yes, Our Gameserver is running DevBuilt Beta

3) No, I use the Stable version

4) No, Our Gameserver is running the Stable version

Remember that multiple Choices is activated

Everyone should be running the DevBuilds (imho), how else can the Alpha advance if nobody moves forward.

That might sound daft but it's true.

I always run the latest beta for ArmAII/CO so I'm just doing the same here, if something goes wrong it will be fixed soon enough.

I voted N°1.

Thanks.

Have always been a beta tester for Arma2, but now I am an alpha tester :)

I think it is the best way to help out the devs, and make this game amazing in every way.

I am running the devbeta too. Its an alpha afterall and how are we supposed to progress unless everyone keeps up with the bugfixes?

From a statistical standpoint, just a little flaw to point out here.

Only people voting in this poll are those visiting the forums - Only people who know about DevBuild beta are those that visit the forums.

I would have to say, at a guess, that the results here may be a little skewed. I dare say (judging from the steam statistics) that the majority don't even visit these forums, and as such the majority have no idea about the DevBuild beta.

Just a thought ;)

That's why

Right now majority of people acting like this is a demo of some sort.

And even if there is some serious bug it can be rolled back / fixed fairly quickly with the delta updates..

Hello there

I defaulted to the opt in program, but have not altered back to the vanilla release due to start up issues.

As others have pointed out you are only going to get a small subsection of the community to participate in your poll so dont rely on it as a definitive yardstick.

Good points, that's why I am running this thread/Poll.

I nonetheless cant agree with you.

The Beta is necessary and an important assessment tool for the developers to hunting down bugs. If only stable updates would been available, so the update and development process of the whole game would take a lot times more than it would take by using DevBuilt updates.

A question: if stable updates are available only...who would be supposed to report the bugs from the previous Version in order that BIS can release a stable Version at all?

Keep in mind that BIS is not EA. BIS has a few developers in a small studio and thats it. So an actuive community is needed to help for the development process...that's why we are rewarded with a less priced Alpha which turns in a full Game someday ;)
