US is getting a c130,not an ac130,big difference (unless i missed something)

this is a very good transport device, faster than a boat and can carry more than a plane (cheaper too)

but i'm not very familair with the technology, but do they need water to hover over,or do they just land in it?

maybe a IL-76 Candid'd be more fitting for transportation for russians...

think that could make do with short runways

or an old an2,would be fun too (so many ideas,so little skills tounge.gif )

like a flying boat but they use ground effect to skim the water

so..... they deliver the troops on the beach

i reckon for ofp it would be better as an amphib/boat but with aircraft speed

it would explainall these surprise invasions too...lol biggrin.gif

lol,yeah

but it's still experimental, think ekranoplan is working together with an american company

but still,think it'd serve a fairly limited purpose (storm the beach,unload and...ditch it smile.gif

i think ofp is a bit too limited (for now) for this kind of stuff

if you could stash some tanks and infantry on some of these in everon, and take malden liek that [\dreammode]

this baby flys only over water. It uses the compressed air under the aircraft to produce lift. The reason it chooses water to fly over is because water is always at sea level :-)

This means its always flat. So it the aerodynamics can work on the flat surface, plus its safer than land. This is not like a hover craft where it can go over bumps..this one cant.

If there were waves, then its only water..wont affect the plane. So it will only fly over the sea or water at high speed.

cheers

Looks pretty impressive. I'm not sure how someone could model it for OFP given the unusual physics that keeps it airborne. Would OFP support hovercraft type objects?

The Russians had some in the Black sea..... I'm certain of this...

They planned to use 'em to take out US Carrier groups..

The only model I saw on that Documentary was a Bomber thing version.....

doubt it,since they're just coming out of experimental stages, they're not bombers, they'd be shot to shreds.

transport only,limited altitude see :-)

i'd love to see bombers coming hovering in at low altitude as an ship captain with phalanxes :-)

In fact they were intended to carry the Russian long range anti-ship missile, Under radar and at great speed.

SS-N-22's (3M80 Moskit).

From www.fas.org:

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Moskit is the aircraft variant of the naval missile 3M80 (SS-N-22 Sunburn, the designation 3M80 apparently referring to the Mach 3 speed of 1980 weapons) used on "Sovremennyy" destroyers (eight missiles on each) and on "Tarantul [Tarantula] III patrol ships (four missiles on each). The 3M82 "Mosquito" missiles have the fastest flying speed among all antiship missiles in today's world. It reaches Mach 3 at a high altitude and its maximum low-altitude speed is M2.2, triple the speed of the American Harpoon. When slower missiles, like the French Exocet are used, the maximum theoretical response time for the defending ship is 150-120 seconds. This provides time to launch countermeasures and employ jamming before deploying "hard" defense tactics such as launching missiles and using quick-firing artillery. But the 3M82 "Mosquito" missiles are extremely fast and give the defending side a maximum theoretical response time of merely 25-30 seconds, rendering it extremely difficult employ jamming and countermeasures, let alone fire missiles and quick-firing artillery. <span id='postcolor'>

I wouldn't be very happy to meet one of those if i were a ship's captain, phalanx CIWS or not...

aha :-)

I was reffering to a true bomber role and not as a carrier of asm's.

But still, should think and speak then. biggrin.gif
