kireta21 13 Posted December 19, 2012 I was using soundmods ever since first one was released. Used HiFi at first, then juicy ACEX_SM, solid JSRS, now I'm back to ACEX_SM because JSRS keep crashing me to desktop on return to main menu, don't know why :-(. Mattar_Tharkari 10 Posted December 19, 2012 I'm so used to the vanilla sounds I can tell where I am being engaged from instantly - I lose that with a sound mod. I like the JSRS vehicle sounds and would probably use it if it was a modular system where you could change vehicles, weapons and environment sounds separately. edit - just reading back looks like some say it is modular now - may have another look! chrisb 196 Posted December 19, 2012 That video!!!:butbut: The exact reason I stopped using it, too ‘Hollywood’, echo and effects don’t need to be pumped up like that. I can do that myself with Realtek audio manager. Even after leaving the arched alleyway the reverberation of the weapon sounds are too movie like.. Also the build up to the beginning of the test vid was terrible, I almost turned off before the test started. It’s a test, just get on and do it, doesn’t need that OTT build up.. But there again, it sounded ‘Hollywood’, so why not have the trailer.. ACEX_SM sounds now for me, I used to use the early JSRS, but that was also little echolike, but not as bad as that video.. Impul5 1 Posted December 26, 2012 I don't really see much of a reason to change them, they seem pretty decent to me, if not all that spectacular.
Gunter Severloh 4071 Posted December 26, 2012 That video!!!the build up to the beginning of the test vid was terrible, I almost turned off before the test started. It’s a test, just get on and do it, doesn’t need that OTT build up.. But there again, it sounded ‘Hollywood’, so why not have the trailer.. I agree to an extent, I think and everyone should know this but sounds are a personal taste, what one person hears and likes will be different for another, the same sound can sound like shit to another person. In the video linked I kinda enjoyed the build up, but then to me at least if your going to demonstrate sounds, then break them into sections, like all inf weapons, then all vehicles, ect,. I'd rather have a complete demonstration video then a video with a a couple of weapons that to me didn't sound all to great, after the video I was like, what do the other guns sound like. Vanilla sounds are ok, but I think if a sound can be true to the original sound of a gun then that would be best, however, I have heard actual sounds from guns and well in a game it sounds like crap, so I like to cross the line between what sounds most realistic, but also gives a gun, be it infantry weapon, rpg, armored, et,. a sound that gives you the distinct feeling of its capacity, or its reality, meaning that its a distinct sound, if you were to compare it to other sounds, it dont sound like a higher pitched sound that another gun had. Guns should also sound their part, like pistols shouldn't sound like a pellet gun, and mgs, should sound like the vicious killing machines they are, not a repetitive typewriter, I want some oomph to the sounds, none of the fishy, airy, air gun sound I hate that, the ffft, ffft, shht, shht, sounds I cant stand, their gay, and makes the gun for it give you the impression your shooting a blowgun with darts, I've had farts with better sounds, lol
