zl2bmh 1 Posted October 17, 2012 Hello All. I'm a late starter into games and forums, as i'm now well into my pensioner years, however I need someone to explain the working please. Due to a very serious illness, my family got me involved into games and I've really enjoyed my first one which is Arma. However, on youtube there's an excellent one called ' Arma 2 Sniper in Iraq' It's in 4 parts. I really would like to have this game but no-one know's anything about it including Bohemia. Can someone tell me why it's so mysterious yet can be found on utube. I would be very grateful for any explanation. Regards and thanks, Jim zl2bmh
Mok Sith 0 Posted October 18, 2012 From looking at the youtube videos. It is just Armed Assault 2. He says in the description that he made the missions and his own personal mod to change guilles. You could try asking in the Arma 2 forum for further details. Click here ---> ARMA 2 Q&A Forum Oh, and welcome to the forums :D
max power 21 Posted October 18, 2012 Sometimes users create videos called machinema (machine cinema). It's simply using a game to create a video. It's possible that sniper in iraq is machinema. At any rate, moving to ArmA2 Q&A.
docbrown 1 Posted October 18, 2012 Hi Jim Best place to start would be to check out the Arma 2 demo. http://www.arma2.com/free Install it, see how your computer handles it and whether or not you like it before spending any money. As others have said, that sniper mission could possibly be a custom mission made by the person who created the YouTube video, however you will find similar gameplay in the demo. If you decide you like it, then you can purchase Arma 2 Combined Operations from here: https://store.bistudio.com/arma2-combined-operations The game is also available on Steam if you have that. If you are specifically looking for sniper missions, there are many user made missions out there free to download. Send me a message if you need a hand, would be glad to help. chrisb 196 Posted October 18, 2012 Welcome to the forum. I would really recommend Arma 2 especially for the ‘Editor’! The 'Editor' is an extra part to the game, if you like, but its the main place to be in my opinion. In the ‘Editor’ you can make quick and easy scenarios/missions of any type you like, yourself, i.e. sniper, spec ops, large or small battles etc plus once your used to it you can move on and more or less make missions of any type at any size. Its very easy and you would get lots of help on here, build your own scenario literally in minutes once you get used to it. Plus the ‘Editor’ would keep anyone occupied for years alone, yes I did say years, has done with me from early on. Don't be affraid that it would be too complicated, I'm in my 50’s now and enjoy it more than when I first started using it, and that was a while ago now. It can be used at a nice easy pace and making small scenarios/missions is a very good way of getting used to the controls and how to play the game at an easier pace. Well worth having a look at. Best place is in the Editor… with mod’s of course, mods/addons are user made by the arma community, they include; islands/terrains, factions, vehicles, aircraft, armour, weapons etc, could go on for a long time, there is a massive range of mods/addons, all provided generously by the makers for the comunity to use for free. Any problems downloading or installing mods or using the editor, I would be happy to help, as will everyone, I would think..:) Don't worry, with the arma series you can't get stuck, there is always someone who will help you out..:)
Joe98 92 Posted October 19, 2012 There is a standalone game named “Arma2†There is another standalone game named “Arma2: Operation Arrowheadâ€. If you have both games you can merge them into one game at which point it is named “Combined Operationsâ€. Bohemia Interactive sell both games and they sell a package named “Combined Operationsâ€. The game “Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead†comes with 2 maps. One is named Takistan. A player used the game’s editor and created a scenario that he named “Sniper in Iraqâ€. The player then used some excellent third party software and filmed the scenario as he played it. It is a lot of data so he split his film into 4 parts and uploaded each part separately to Youtube. Many players have used the editor to create scenarios and some have uploaded their scenarios to web sites so that we too can play them. Some are uploaded here. Others are uploaded to a website named “Armaholicâ€. Search there and have fun! Joe
