species1571 64 Posted September 18, 2012 Hi. I have a quick question. With physical copies available for pre-order cheaper than Steam, I am wondering, is there any advantage to ordering on Steam instead? I mean, with a physical copy, will the game still be tied to Steam for achievements, and able to play without the disc etc?
gunso 10 Posted September 19, 2012 Steam 1. Digital copy 2. No broken/damage cd issue and etc2 Physical CD 1. No steam needed 2. No fast internet connection required 3. Can still play if steam acting up and demanded internet connection when your internet is down I personally dont like steam but there are games that i dont have any choice but to use it. I still prefer digital copy than cd (you have no idea how much space my old cd is taking up) but i try to use others like sprocket or gamersgate 1st, only use steam as a last resort. It's up to you anyway.
species1571 64 Posted September 19, 2012 Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't really answer my question. I already have high speed connection and use Steam for other games, so using Steam is not a problem for me. But the Steam copy is signifigantly more expensive than the physical copy, so I am thinking of going for the physical copy. What I am wondering is if there is any advantage to the Steam version that I would be missing with the physical copy, like the Steam achievements or ability to play without the disc in the drive. I find achievements do add some longevity and replay value to games. Is this game actually going to be using the Steam features, or is it just being used for distribution? The Steam product pages says "Steam achievements", but doesn't give a list if there are any. I know of some games such as the Modern Warfare series, where even the physical copy uses Steam, so these questions would decide for me how I buy this game. If Steam is not being used by either version, and is only for distribution, I will go the physical copy If Steam is being used by both versions, I will also go for the physical copy If Steam is only being used by the Steam version and not the physical version, I will need to wait and see if I think it is worth the extra price of the Steam version. CC2012 1 Posted September 23, 2012 Is it true? The retail Version of CC will have no DRM like Steam? I buy, install and play the game without register over the internet? That would be great.
gunso 10 Posted September 24, 2012 i have a few other games on sprocket (digital copy) and arma 2 cd, it just require the input of serial for cd while installation while digital copy require serial activation online, that's all.
CC2012 1 Posted September 24, 2012 But this also applies to CC? An answer from the official side would be nice.

Hi guys, Carrier Command: Gaea Mission from Store.bistudio.com requires a one-time activation online. For the rest you'll be able to play the game even without an Internet connection. harbinger 1 Posted September 25, 2012 It also has an installation lock - at least on Beta. Can only install 4 or 5 times with one key. I ran into my install limit while testing with different hardware configs. Got a message to call customer support before I could reinstall. Got to admit - I'm not terribly impressed with that. If I have a valid key - it's entirely up to me how I use it, how many times I use it, and on which hardware I use it. If you need DRM to ensure that a key is only running one instance at any time, that's ok with me - but no way can you limit my installs. I have located the offending code. CC2012 1 Posted September 26, 2012 For the rest you'll be able to play the game even without an Internet connection. That sounds good. No DRM for the retail Version from Amazon?
