P I R O G - AFRF

A campaign for ArmA II Combined Operations

By Bardosy

Converted to AFRF by Stagler

ruscamp.jpg

Requires Red Hammer Studios: Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

After the Cold War, Chernarus betrayed Russia and separated as an independent state. The Chernarussian people never said a single 'Thank You' even though throughout the Cold War, Chernarus was modernised out of the relative poverty and ruin that followed WW2. After the separation, Russia was busy with its own problems in the Caucasus. Chernarus used this time to build up a pro-American economy from their oil reserves and caviar fished from the Black Sea. The USA - of course - supports them much better than Moscow militarily and the Chernarussian government - when their economy and newly americanised CDF was ready - started a very aggressive and provocative policy towards Russia. Citizenship of Russian nationals living in the country was revoked. Criminal attacks against Russians was daily in the Northern part of Chernarus. It finally came to blows as CDF units launched rocket attacks into southern Russia bordering Chernarus. Russia was obliged to respond with force...

This campaign is focused on the regular infantry combat with armored and air support. This is not a special operations or pilot campaign.

Features:

- Weapon selection (if not during the briefing, it possible later from vehicles).

- Not one team or lone wolf against the whole CDF army style missions.

- Usually leading one squad, but attacking with other squads in most missions. Later you can lead multiple squads (High Command). Large "battlefield" feel to gameplay.

- Multiple playable roles (you can switch to the squad sniper or AT soldier within your squad).

- Not a very deep story with romance, but there are lovable/hateable characters.

- English dialogue

- Increased difficulty from original campaign as the AFRF are less well equipped (but more realistically) than BIS Russian forces.

Thanks again to Bardosy for agreeing to the re-release of this great campaign, and all his hard work in creating the original.

No you did not :o , I was thinking about doing this myself but don´t have enough spare time atm. I will definately give this a try. One quick question. In the original campaign the player was equiped with a AK107 PSO. What weapon does he have now? Unscoped? That will make things quite difficult, I hope you guys make a nice scoped version of your magnificient AKs soon...

EDIT: Have vehicels been replaced too?

All the vehicles have been replaced with RHS ones yes.

And the player has AK74M GP25 now, he can choose the normal or 2mag AK74M from the briefing screen.

Hey Colonel,

The .rar file is packed with two pbo's:

Pirog_AFRF

and

Do both go into Campaign folder?

Lastly,

You need AFRF Mod, you dont need any replacement packs.

Its just the Pirog_AFRF file that goes into the campaign folder.

Well it didn't crash, i had to kill ArmA2 by myself...

Seems I found the problem anyway, the developer version of the BTR70 had snook into the mission.sqm. My bad, iv uploaded the fixed version to the first post as well.

Ill get onto the heads at ARMAHOLIC right away.

You should just be able to overwrite the old version and carry on from where you left off.

Hi Colonel,

I don't know if it was mentioned, but what do you think about implementing Project CDF?

He's got an update on it and I think it would go in nicely to the campaign.

Actually, I should probably bring this to Mr. Bardosy's attention.

If there are no more bugs I wont be working on this anymore, it was just a simple conversion is all. One of the agreements with Bardosy when I asked to port his work was that he didnt get any messages or posts about it because he is done with it as well. Thats why I opened a seperate thread.

If you want to add things like project CDF, i would unpack the campaign and add them in yourself.

Ok, i managed to finish the campaign today, no bugs (i never managed to get the artillery support working though, in one of the first missions). I enjoy it a lot, and the RHS:AFRF port is very nice.

If you mean arty support in the 2nd half of the 2nd mission (after capture the hill with CDF mortars), then it's very simple, because it's the BIS arty support: press 0 and select Communication and then the arty support and then click on the map where do you call the arty strike.

In the Tank valley mission, when you reach the 3rd (last) village with the BM-21s, did you see these cars launch rockets? Or they just stand without activity?

  • The artillery dialog happened, but when i click on the map, there's a message where the artillery refuses to fire (kind of "cannot fire here"), i was simply aiming the BMP/shilka in the village.
  • Yep the BM-21 where firing in the sky.

This is probably because since they introduced the artillery computer, they changed the minimum and maximum ranges of all artillery ingame.

True story.

I'm not sure. I just play this mission a weeks ago as you release the AFRF version of this campaign (so with the 1.62 ArmA2) and this arty is worked. I could call the ASRAM strike against those BMP/Shilka in the village.

oh, wait a minute: did you mean "they" as RHS? So in AFRF mod has a modified arty computer? Or you mean BIS did it?

I didnt touch any of the ingame scripts bar the ones that spawn the units.

I don't remember, but I guess this arty strike is from an onmap arty battery, so it1s nor spawn. But I'm not sure, because I try to spawn as much units I can, because I found it more CPU-friendly.

As I said, with the bis arty computer they made all artillery ranges change. SO the stuff on map is probably out of range or within minimum range now.

I'm having a realy hard time in the first mission because the hind lands my platoon directly in the line of fire between a friendly unit (spetznaz?) and the airstrip.

As a result we get peppered by friendly fire

Most of the time I loose half my unit (tovarisch!).

Sometimes we even loose the hind!

I know the Russian army like to throw caution to the wind in favour of bold manoeuvres but this is reckless to the point of suicide...

Can someone help?

I reckon that the simplest solution would be to get the hind to land 2 dozen metres to the north or south but I don't know how to edit the mission file...
