Controlling Tank as Commander

Recommended Posts

I have just bought Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead and trying to get the hang of controlling my troops etc.

But, first, I have a problem controlling my tank (I am playing Campaign, second mission) when I am Commander of the tank. I use my keyboard to give commands...ahead, left etc but the driver can't keep the tank in a straight line. The tank keeps swivelling left and right and veering off to the side constantly.

I have installed patch 1.60 but this didn't help.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Mank thanks

Bill Miller

Command them via the map and use Q to tell them to go slow while commanding. Its easier.

They will also drive more straight if you issue the "safe" or at ease command. They swerve around when the are in "Danger" mode. ^ Clicking the map works quite well too.

Pressing 1, 9 tells them to proceed to their next waypoint. But remember, while you're in command of the tank you aren't the driver. The driver may have some weird ideas about how to drive sometimes but it would be better for your sanity if you just relax and let them drive. When you give them a command left or forward or whatever you're not telling the driver to go forward mindlessly, but you're just giving him a general course to drive on. The AI will drive in that general direction but they will avoid obstacles, etc.

Drive it yourself.

Tank commander is an exercise in frustration only.
