Recommended Posts

Had a look through the forum and coudn't see anything relating to this...

Does anyone know if ARMA 3 will support all 6 Degrees Of Freedom that Trackir provides?

Cheers...

As far as I've been able to see it will be the same 5DOF we see in ArmA2.

ARMA2 only has 4DoF for infantry? (Heading, Pitch, Zoom, Lean/Yaw)

In aircraft its only 3DoF? (Heading, Pitch, Zoom)

I believe that it will be the same as ToH at least in helicopters with 6 DoF.

(Heading, Pitch, Yaw/Lean, Side move, Vertical move, Zoom)

I just hope the new infantry stances make use of Trackir. lowering and raising your head slightly from all stances, improved leaning and peaking around corners. It would be a real shame if that isn't accesible through Trackir inputs.

Isn't this configurable? Haven't tried it myself, but I've seen others configure all kinds of non-default functions to trackir-moves in other games. So if you want to use more trackir-movement in Arma-games, it should be possible to set up already, I think.

Personally I'm happy with how it is in A2 already. But I practically only use head-movement and zoom (By tilting my chair). Having to move more of my body during gaming only make things uncomfortable.

confirming, playing with track ir both arma 2 and toh. i hope it will stay the same as at toh. (toh got 6DOF)

the only complain that picture seems different/stretching.. idk how to explain proper, but it really breaking immersion (both games)

i will make screenshots in a moment

these difference in view make me feel disoriented sometimes (i ONLY turn my head. no zoom/zoom out)

i can't feel it proper, seriously. why side view is making things closer then front view?

this is the only thing i hate about freelook in arma. if it will be fixed somehow so i will be able to see things more natural, i would love it

why the heck my sidevew is better then front?.. in reality i see objects closer if i look at it directly and it otherwise if i look with sideview

The reason things get closer when you turn your head is due to arma 2's cockpits having a predefined FOV, with a few of them "pushed back", thus causing a fisheye lense effect. That is why if you look at the dashboard from a straight view, then look down, the dash seems to "lengthen". For the record it's not like this in every vehicle, just some.

And don't make fun of "Buffalo" Billy, he had to work extra hard to get through his training to become a pilot! (in seriousness though since it persists it's likely an animation or some other problem, not with TIR)

Exactly my friend!... Being able to squat/bob up and down behind walls at any height would be awesome :-)

Well, unknown, but I'd guess no less than ArmA2.

I'm hoping to be able to lean from the waist but keep the shoulders & head level...

Can't you already do that?

AFAIK the only things you can't do in ArmA 2 are tilt your head side-to-side and move your head up and down vertically.

+1 for peeking over / ducking with TIR.

Soon I'll be a TrackIR user too!

I actually ordered a TrackIR5 just a day ago for future use in both ArmA2 and ArmA3. I'm sure lots of others have too or will do soon,

so it's definetly something BIS should have in mind. I'll just state my opinion here then and hope ArmA3 will have full support.

Before I ordered it I noticed on the website that ArmA2 only supports 4DOF, and not a full 6. Looking through this thread I see that ToH has 6DOF support. That's a great improvement.

If that can be kept from ToH and brought into ArmA3 it'll be a huge plus. Even if it's only inside of the vehicles.

Altough I really trust in BIS and their way of continually building upon their engine, so it'll probably be there if everything goes the way they'd like.

I got my fingers crossed for this one.

I am a proud owner of a trackir5 with the pro clip.

i was always dissapointed how bad support for it in arma2.

i rarly use it when i am a inf. but i use it in aircraft.

im dont fly that much in arma. but in games from example DCS its on constantly :)

if your a flyboy fan. trackir is like a gift sent by god :)

You won't be disappointed matey!!!...

I refuse to operate any simulation without it, and if it broke I'd buy another immediately and I wouldn't touch ARMA until a replacement arrived IT'S THAT GOOD

You're in for a treat :-)

I find it incredibly useful for both flying and infantry. You can freelook, incremental lean, and zoom with TrackIR as infantry. I'm not really sure what else you would want or need to do.

I'm another TrackIR-5 user and I find it just as useful with infantry as in a cockpit.

The ability to freelook any time even with sights up, easily lean around corners really helps awareness and immersion so much.

The different head heights in ARMA3 might be a bit difficult to use with TrackIR as its hard to move your head up and down while seated (especially without affecting the other axes)

compared to implementation at arma 1, track ir works great at arma 2.

and yeah track ir 5 + track clip pro here aswell

I control this Trackir function (vertical axis) by slightly rolling the hips back & forth which lowers the head about an inch in real life then let Trackir do the rest, works perfectly :-)

ARMA 3 needs this!...
