Civilian mission idea - input appreciated

Recommended Posts

Usually I am pretty good with coming up with an idea for new missions. Lately though I seem to have hit a brick wall. Maybe it's writers block? I am also growing tired of the standard OPFOR vs BLUFOR missions. I am working on a new mission and am having trouble fleshing out the storyline. This is what I am thinking so far...

A Civilian Centered mission - The player is a civilian

It involves locating a family member

Would be a multi-part SP mission and/or Campaign

Custom dialogue and sounds/music

Include the use of many currently under-utilized objects/units

Does anyone have any suggestions that I could add that may help me flesh this out?

Thanks!

Some ideas for such mission (mostly for cutscenes, intros - pick 2 or 3):

- drinking vodka (or stronger stuff) with friends

- doing nasty stuff while drunk f.e. driving bike, losing control, passing out and falling when driven too far away from road, while trying to resolve task f.e. "get from Stary Sobor to Novy Sobor using old bike" - race against time and police

- challenging bullies / bullying wimps from school, incl. city mayor

- doing Postal 2 like tasks: buying food, visiting church etc.

- feeding animals, ranting wife,

, walking dog...

- CWR Kozlice if player chooses force solution, collecting evidence to make police help you

Go see a movie called RED DAWN back in the OFP days I made a group of missions on the movie. backround USSR and Cuba take over the united states. The only state that is not under control is California. High school brothers and friends takes on the reds in the mid west. Great movie and a lot of movie stars played in the movie.

Well if it is occurring during a war the player could be;

Evacuation Pilot

Truck Driver (Smuggling people out of the country / weapons in)

Fisherman (Smuggling people out; would be boring because that boat moves incredibly slow)

works in a government office and has to destroy documents

Photographer documenting the war

Mechanic and has to travel around getting parts to fix his car to get his family out of the country.

- A civilian is forced by the enemy to be a guide or translator. His family is held hostage so he doesn't betray them. He somehow manages to escape/get rid of his captors (maybe he leads them into an ambush). After he escapes he then has to locate/ free his family.

- A civilian has to pay "protection" to Taliban/Chedaki. He has to accomplish some tasks to get the money (or maybe, say, a vehicle) - and maybe a weapon to teach them a final lesson.

- A double-agent civilian who works for the "good guys". He liases with the enemy, earns their trust and then betrays them to the "good guys" (as in case above, maybe leads them into a pre-arranged "killzone"). You could give the enemies some AI smarts, so maybe they aren't sitting ducks. Maybe some of the enemy escape/survive and civillian has to evade them and get back to freindly lines. How effective the ambush is can depend on the civilian's skill in guiding the enemy into the ambush. For example, if the trigger for the ambush is too soon, more of the enemy will escape. If the trigger is too late, he will get caught in the crossfire and killed. Also time-sensitive - if he gets there too soon before the arranged time, the ambush fails, if he gets there too late, the ambushers (fearing a set-up) would have left.

- Civilian is forced to steal a vehicle for bad guys, his family is kept hostage until he delivers the vehicle to them.

Don't know if any of this is doable with current objects, just throwing out some ideas. I'm thinking along the life of "For The Life Of A Friend" campaign.

Some great ideas in here, really!

Stang69, my mission For The Life Of A Friend (see my sig) is a civilian mission too (Edit: Oh - I didn't see that MissionCreep mentioned it as well [thanks, MC]. :) ). Maybe you can find some inspiration in there as well.

I think that this kind of missions still is quite underrepresented in the community, so I'm looking forward to play yours!

Undeceived,

Sorry for the VERY LATE reply. The answer is Yes/No. I was making good progress for awhile then the opportunity to emigrate to England presented itself. Currently I'm without a PC, but have been using the old MK1 pencil & paper to compose various storylines. Depending on the time frame, the missions may be saved for A3.
