Placebo 29 Posted June 16, 2002 Don't spam your question over multiple forums please, it only serves to irk me, one post in the correct forum will suffice
Airwolf 50 Posted June 17, 2002 i simply posted in troubleshooting because its a problem, and i posted in general because the majority of people go there, instead of critisizing me why dont you help me.
Lt_Damage 0 Posted June 17, 2002 He was doing both, using the forums correctly is the best way to get your problem solved. Trying to take advantage of the traffic flow of the GENERAL forum isn't going to help. The people don't go there to solve your problems.
Airwolf 50 Posted June 17, 2002 fine fine! then stop responding to my thread unless you can help me with my problem.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted June 17, 2002 if you have too many addons, how about moving them to different location? make another folder calles 'CustomAddons' or so and copy all yout addons there. then restart OFP. i think i heard from somewhere that too many addons might cause OFP not to launch. Jester983 0 Posted June 17, 2002 Well you could save the addons you like into a temporary folder then reinstal flashpoint then put them back in. BTW how many addons do you have? I never thought that could happend with OFP.
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 17, 2002 OFP has an upper limit of how much memory it will use (256MB), so it is entirely possible to exhaust that with an excessive number of addons and keep OFP from loading a mission or running it correctly.
Airwolf 50 Posted June 17, 2002 would buying more ram help? i have 256 right now, i also preordered resistance and the avon ladys faqs says that resistance might fix the issue due to memory management.
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 17, 2002 More memory can't hurt, but I'm not sure if it will actually fix your problem, due to the fact that OFP currently has an upper limit of 256MB of memory that it will use for dynamic memory allocation. The overall memory footprint of OFP can exceed 256MB because Windows will use additional memory to load the code, but OFP uses an internal heap size of 256MB for loading addons, missions etc. I'm not sure about Resistance (and possibly upcoming patches to the basic OFP) and any changes that BIS is planning for it, but it would seem that allowing the game to use more of the available resources would be a smart thing to do, especially with the proliferation of addons that is coming out. Until Resistance and the OFP patch ship, we are all just guessing.

Suma did confirm that in OFPR, the retained info on addons kept in memory has been reduced. How that translates into the quantity of addons that can be retained in the ADDONS folder versus OFP's base version indeed remains to be seen.
