Double Doppler 10 Posted March 21, 2012 AFAIK Arma 3 has announced they would be using Java for syntax, but will the SQF syntax/commands still be used? Will an SQF written mission still be able to be ported to Arma 3?
hellfire257 3 Posted March 21, 2012 I bloody hope so, LOL! SQF will still be supported AFAIK.

Undeceived 392 Posted March 21, 2012 Will SQS be used? :nerner: <-- this setunitpos "MIDDLE"; and running... :outtahere:
noubernou 77 Posted March 22, 2012 Java support was mentioned to not be a replacement to SQF... Which begs the question why they did it in the first place... Java should be able to replace SQF (not that SQF will go anywhere) in terms of functionality and usage. The Java path, at least how its being talked about in the TKOH area is somewhat of a joke right now.
Darkhorse 1-6 16 Posted March 22, 2012 Last I heard, with ArmA III the plan was to have SQF and Java operating side by side, and any future titles would most likely switch to Java only.

Actually, java only may be an issue for some things. But java in arma is in its infancy.
Slapstick 10 Posted March 24, 2012 (edited) I suspect once the Java bandwagon gets rolling more people will jump on it. The advantage Java will have is that server side code can be written that runs on Linux and Windows servers. Alot of the functionality that coders are trying to achieve with callExtension can be done quite easily in Java (SQL databases anyone?) However, given the amount of SQF code out there it is not going to go away anytime soon. What has my interest piqued is the RVEngine.GameCode class. Hopefully, calling SQF scripts from Java will be just as easy as calling Java from SQF. Edited March 24, 2012 by Slapstick Fixed a typo.
