Headclot 10 Posted January 22, 2012 Hey all, I have been lurking on the forums for a while now and well I have not seen this so I am going to ask. I know that ARMA 3 is going to have Nvida PhysX for Rag dolls and General Physics. However will there be APEX integration in to ARMA 3? For those of you who do not know what i am talking about - While done with UDK it should give you an Idea what I am talking about.

onlyrazor 11 Posted January 22, 2012 V5jSPPmY_VE Offtopic: When are the moderators putting up a tutorial on using BBCode, I've seen too many white frames where Youtube videos were supposed to be :(
metalcraze 290 Posted January 22, 2012 Even if BIS wanted - today we are limited by the technology to allow such destruction on anything else but a tiny test area. Especially considering that ArmA3 would have to transmit each piece of debris over the network at all times since without scripting everything stays in the game world forever. Flash Thunder 10 Posted January 22, 2012 Yes when we all have fiber optic internet and 64 core CPU's then BIS will integrate APEX.
krazikilla 5 Posted January 22, 2012 Actually for soldner secret wars it was possible like 8 years ago. They created a very decent destruction system which worked quite well on huge maps and like 30 players playing it online. You could even destroy landscapes with big explosions, which left craters. If THIS, was possible 8 years ago. Why it shouldnt be today? Why it shoulndt be possible to do it even 100x nicer? http://www.soldnersecretwars.de/index.php?mod=static&action=view&id=9 I know you cannot totally compare soldner - secrete wars with the ArmA series, but in general the idea and the maps are comparable. Also dont forget, you can handle a lot of destruction via CPU and nice algortihms. Just a few bigger parts of rubbel may have to be synct via internet. Even that i think you can handle by algorithms CPU/GPU side.
metalcraze 290 Posted January 23, 2012 Wasn't it pointed out in another thread that the destruction was scripted just like it's in ArmA2 now? You can destroy buildings chunk by chunk in this game as well.
Cripsis 10 Posted January 23, 2012 You can destroy buildings chunk by chunk in this game as well. Do you mean in ARMA3? Is the building destruction in ARMA3 going to differ from ARMA2 or will it basically be the same?
metalcraze 290 Posted January 23, 2012 I mean ArmA2.
Cripsis 10 Posted January 23, 2012 I mean ArmA2. OK thanks.
maddogx 13 Posted January 23, 2012 Is the building destruction in ARMA3 going to differ from ARMA2 or will it basically be the same? I asked something like that in the Arma3 ARG Q&A: (...) is BIS planning to add more complex destruction physics to buildings in Arma3?[Answer:] No :(
metalcraze 290 Posted January 23, 2012 People already complain that ArmA2 is "unoptimized". With whatever PhysX BIS added it will probably work on i7 2600K just as fast as it does with Q6600 now if someone will go overboard with mere boxes since in usual shooters all physical 3D objects get removed when you are 50m away - here they will stay forever. You really don't want PhysX based destruction.
