Nicholas 5 Posted January 13, 2012 As a new user, I suggest to stay away from mods for now. They can make the already confusing game even worse. I'd say learn the game a bit, then get into mods like ACE.

Nicholas 5 Posted January 13, 2012 ok thanks for the advice man. No problem. Play around in the editor and create small missions or play the singleplayer missions and campaign. Get used to all the controls and mechanics of the game before you indulge yourself with mods. This game can get quite confusing at times.
purepassion 22 Posted January 13, 2012 However, it won't be a problem to use cosmetic mods such as a soundmod or FX mods such as Blastcore ;) (both require CBA) Have fun with discovering everything and don't hesitate if you have any questions :)

Kindling 1 Posted January 14, 2012 I suggest the tutorials, some single missions to mess about with, maybe make your own little mission or two (it's really easy), the singleplayer campaign then a downloaded mission or two (sandbox-style missions are best to prepare with), then you'll be ready for multiplayer, mods and the such. I recommend that you read the stickies, there's some great guides there, and look up a few videos on youtube to see how others play. When you are looking at mods, just download SIX Updater - it's the easiest way to manage them - it can automatically download whatever mods you need to play on any multiplayer server. A note for when/if you try multiplayer - try to stay away from vehicles at first, stick to infantry. It can be very discouraging to fly a helicopter or drive a tank as a newer player, as many things are expected of you (voice communication and excellent skills), and more experienced players often get pretty annoyed when the limited assets available in ARMA II missions are underutilized. Even more so when in some servers they can be permanently destroyed by a small mistake! If you haven't got the original ARMA II, download ARMA II: Free - this will come in handy when you want to play multiplayer. If you have got ARMA II installed through steam, make sure to pick 'Play combined operations' when you start the game, so it loads the ARMA II missions, too! If you get low performance, don't worry! Read up on the forums for plenty ways to improve performance. Enjoy, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
Beagle 684 Posted January 14, 2012 I would suggest to stay away from Mods right at the moment. ArmA II: OA is still work in progress and sees a lot of changs to root functions that make mods quite troublesome...and for fast and comfortable MP on populated servers you need a vanilla .exe anyway. Compared to OFP or Armed Assault ArmAII:OA is quite enjoyable out of the box without mods. I usually consider mods a better idea whenever there are no more updates to the core engine from the Developers. Currently the changes happen so fast that not all mods are updated fast enough to work with current version, resulting in bug reports that turn out to be mod related. [frl]myke 14 Posted January 14, 2012 When you are looking at mods, just download SIX Updater - it's the easiest way to manage them - it can automatically download whatever mods you need to play on any multiplayer server. Please be aware although SIX-updater covers a lot of mods/addons, not all are available there. Some still require manual downloading, installing and maintaining (updates). FATALF0E 1 Posted January 14, 2012 Thanks guys really helpfull, will stick to vanilla for now learning as much as pos, and do some training missions. now and then i like to do some sniping and heard arma is closest to real sim sniping with the ace mod that's the main reason i was considering using it. but if vanilla sniping is good as it is ill stick to that. Thanks again.
Angus S 10 Posted January 14, 2012 ACE is good for sniping, but it would still be a good idea to play vanilla for a while first to learn the basics of ArmA before you go into ACE
Tonci87 163 Posted January 14, 2012 ACE is the best Mod for sniping! There should be Turtorial videos on youtube on how to snipe with ACE. You might consider trying the user made campaign "Team Shadow". Its about a sniper Team and pretty realistic.
