walker 0 Posted November 6, 2011 Hi all A thought control interface has been proven in a 3D helicopter environment. http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0026322 Follow the link to the paper in full Should be of interest to the developers of Take On Helicopters and ArmA. walker 0 Posted November 6, 2011 Hi Tonci87 Yes it is because a different part of the brain is used when you panic. Over time I would expect the interface to be tuned to human stress based thought modes as well. Kind Regards walker

nodunit 397 Posted November 6, 2011 If they do make that the general form of control then something tells me that pilots are going to be a bit more difficult to find, especially if they frequent the internet a LOT.
PELHAM 10 Posted November 6, 2011 What would be the point of it when most future aircraft will be unmanned UAVs? The pilot is going to be removed from the cockpit so who need this?

Dead3yez 0 Posted November 6, 2011 What would be the point of it when most future aircraft will be unmanned UAVs? The pilot is going to be removed from the cockpit so who need this? Uhm... Why does it matter if the aircraft is manned or not? Its core feature is to allow the user to make use of mre than just hands and feet for extra controllability, not to make the pilot invulnerable. :p
PELHAM 10 Posted November 6, 2011 Uhm... Why does it matter if the aircraft is manned or not? Its core feature is to allow the user to make use of mre than just hands and feet for extra controllability, not to make the pilot invulnerable. :p The use of thought control was first proposed to allow a faster interface between man and machine. If there is no pilot there is no point to this technology as the time taken for signals to travel from the control station to the aircraft introduce significant delays in response. Most recent UAVs are semi autonomous and you don't actually fly them real time. You simply put in waypoints and the aircraft does the job of flying itself. So will you actually see this put into military aircraft - probably not. It would be of more use to disabled people.
