Realism or not?

Recommended Posts

my friend is saying opflash and mohaa, are just as realistic as CS? and are boring, he says that they are both no more realistic than CS, he complains wot man can jump in any military vehicle and drive/fly it, and i say but not every one can drive or handle them properly, and confidently...

he says MOHAA is slow, and if u jump off a building u dnt die apparently, ukeep running tounge.gif

may iask for your opinions and hope this topic is worth while:)

dont get me wrong CS and all HL mods are great, but im just wondering what every ones verdict is, thx for your time smile.gif craig "sevled/opul" delves

you know I'd love to help you but I can't understand a word your saying. Could you please try to make that a little more legible? THanks!

I'm sorry, but CS is not in any way a realistic game. From cone fire to bunny hopping real world tatics don't work. Is OFP as realistic as possible, no it is not, but you can use RL tatical doctrine and win a battle. Consealment is important and picking your fight is as well. Running and gunning will get you killed. Now CS is multiplayer only and is based on CQB so engagments are never than 50m so the two games don't even compare. MOHAA is just an action game with a WWII wrapper on it and says nothing otherwise. It's also a really good action game so I like it. But to state that CS is the benchmark for realism is wrong.

On the note that being able to drive and fly all the vehicles as unrealistic. Maybe hopping from one to the other is, ie infantry man wouldn't jump into a tank and wreck havoc, but OFP is a step forward that the whole combined armed battle field is modelled and the player can choose how he fits into it.

i hate to be bothering, but my friend said OFP was also boring, andcomplex, but ihavent yet seen agame that competes with OFP? if im wrong please give me an examlpe...

he was also sayibg he was annoyed about being sniped by my friend across the map, but u actually can do that. one more thing:) wen u run he hayes the way u cant fire, and hates to see the white trail-dot of the cross hair. "it doesent do that in cs" im like god all mighty. is there anymore arguments to bring up? please fill free.

If only they made tank models in Flashpoint more realistic it would be more fun to play.  2 guys with the "unrealistically" *reloadable* RPGs can take out an M1A1s ?    Pathetic.

That's why I always use the Carl Gustav.  It's only got one shot (as it should), so you better hit it and make sure you disable it or else that tank will have your ass on a platter.

okay, it sounds like your friend:

A) has no idea what realistic is, and

B) has a serious CS addiction that he should probably take to a therapist

OFP is realistic, to a degree.

MOHAA is about as realistic as Quake. If you can take a clip worth of SMG rounds to the chest and keep on fighting, I want some of the vitamins you are taking.

CS sucks. Not only is it not realistic, but it makes a mockery of real SWAT and CQB tactics.

Also, I might reccomend the Czech forums, there might be more people in there with a knowledge of Russian.

Well, I dont see a reason why in real life a person couldnt jump out of a tank and go to the pilot seat of a helicopter? It would be different thing how well he could fly that, but its the same thing in OFP... Some people are experienced in flying helicopters, sniping, gunnerin a tank, or just being a regular infantry guy. Sure, the possibility of a tank gunner hopping into piloting an helicopter in a real war would be rather small, but thats a realism factor that is up to the mission designer. OFP Campaign handled this very well in my opinion, how you change to control different persons for driving tanks, flying, etc.

And you can fire when you are running, but the possibility of hitting something is rather small. I would like to see him sprinting as fast as he can and trying to fire an assault rifle at the same time... In OFP you can walk and look through the ironsights and accurately hit stuff, but you cannot run and do that, which is good and realistic.

As for crosshairs, a magical white cross hovering in the middle of your eyesight isnt exactly realistic, no matter if its done the OFP style, CS style or Quake style. Thats why I have the crosshair disabled in OFP, its much more fun, accurate and realistic to use the ironsight for aiming.

As for MOHAA, I have never played it, only seen a person play it and it looked pretty much like an arcade shooter, far, far from being realistic.

Also, you might want to direct your friend to this site:

http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystem.com

The US military is going to base a new training tool on a version of the OFP engine. There isn't anything that comes close to the visual fidelity and depth of experience that OFP offers even today.

Even though I've played the game for about a year now, it still surprises me, and makes my heart pound when I'm hiding in a bush and an armored vehicle or truck loaded with enemy soldiers heads right at me.

most people who use CS "tactics" in OFP get killed a lot (obviously) and complain "this game sucks" and "wtf i died in one shot this game is gay!" etc

as many ppl agree that FPS-type games are getting closer to reflecting 'reality', but is still a far distance away. Among those that are closer to it is OFP.

i personally think most FPS are arcades, not simulation like OFP.

your friend obviously has some problem generated by playing too much quake-type arcade shooting games.

I dont know what anyone else thinks, but aside from a few area sensitive dammage glitches, OFP is the most realistic game iv ever played

On the subject of realism, how would you guys rate Ghost Recon is terms of realism? No, i'm not trying to start a GR vs OPF discussion again, but just talking about GR only and whether it reflects 'real life cqb tactics'.

Hmm, tough call. The way the sight closes up for more accuracy is pretty hokey in my opinion, because these guys are supposedly elite troopers, and second, bullets wont spray from a weapon at close ranges like that; they will track in a specific direction relative to where the weapon is pointing, and of course, due to recoil. Because GR doesnt tell you where the weapon actually is, this is difficult. However, one thing I really enjoy is the effect that a bullet impact creates. One thing that has always bothered me about so called realistic games (even OFP) is someone being hit once or twice in an area that, even though it would not be lethal, it would probably be painful, and would at least cause them to draw back that side of their body, or double over, or something, and GR does that very well. Another thing that I thought GR had a lot of potential in was the urban fighting. The embassy level showed alot of promise, but they didnt flesh it out enough. they needed to have more open doors, second story windows, etc.

So, I think GR would probably better simulate CQB, as everything is geared down to be at a smaller scale, and therefore more detail can be fleshed out (though for some reason, they didnt flesh it out enough). OFP better simulates battlefield conditions. Everything is more tactical, and the situation is always very fluid. The biggest surprise you get in GR is a guy standing in a corner you werent expecting, while in OFP I have had an entire platoon of Russians show up on my flank, which completely ruined my day. GR has its points, but overall, OFP wins by a big margin in all aspects except (maybe) CQB

With the improved collision detection in the OFP mp betas and resistance i think urban warfare in OFP will be alot better. If the game wouldnt lag as hell with alot of buildings...

Well most of these CSers and all other arcade shooter fans all complain about guns not being good and too hard to hit with... WELL TRY THIS: Get your hands on a real gun and go to the firing range. If you get your hands on a full auto carbine and you manage to get "headshots" when firing full auto from the hip (prefferably while sprinting, and on a moving target), then, and only then, you can complain about accuracy and difficulty about aming in other games.

I have a dream... that someday in the world we will have a game that has the concept of OFP, tank realism modellin from steel beasts, helo modellin from Longbow 2, air modellin from IL2/Flanker 2.5, QCB from Ghost Recon, Damage modellin from SOF2, mplayer of Unreal Tournament/HL/Q3... mmm mmm that would be a game of all times. biggrin.gif

A couple of years ago, people were saying the same thing about the current crop of games.

The way I see it, OFP is just the first in a long-lived franchise of games. Maybe today's systems aren't capable of running a game with all of those features, but in a few years, they will, and I'm sure the developers at BIS and other companies will take up the challenge.

Yeah.. if you would have showed OFP for a 1990s gamer playin Wolfenstein or whatever was played then he would have crapped his pants.. then he would have sold his car and then he would have put his ass in the freezer and set a timer for 12 years... smile.gif

AFAIK most CS players should stay playing CS. i used to be a hardcore CS player early betas blah blah blah. the community has deteriorated into trolls and pathetic dorks trying to be "1337", only CS players i would now like to see switch over to OFP are COFR and some other mature clans, the kiddiots can stay with CS.

tell your friend OFP sucks donkey balls and he's way better off with CS. CS:CZ is coming out and he'll have an awesome time pwning the n00bs. ofp has that crappy lobby which makes j00 wait sooooooo loooooong before you can get any frags to show everyone your skillz.

If i may. I know this "boy" and he did have a CS addiction until his "crappy conection speed make it so he cant kick ass". Yet I as many others need a little stress relife once in a while. But then I have the urge to to test my skill to adapt to my suroundings and head for cover while an obviouse unbeatable nme contage moves by my bush when an all out attack CS stile would get me killed. This "boy" (i use this lightly) doesn't seem to grasp the hole bassis of this game yet rather than sportingly admit that the game just isn't for him he try's to no extent to divulge the so called bad points of the game in any way he see's fit to my and sevelds face's so when i had the oportunity i too him out sprinting with a swift sniper shot to the neck wich in effect made him cry this game sucks.
