oren_m 10 Posted September 27, 2011 Hello! So i got Arma2:OA rather lately, and i'm having preformance issues. The animation in the backgroud of the main manue freezes all the time and so does while playing the game itself. I tried lowering the graphics... but nothing changed. how should i fix it? My specs: Windows XP sp3 2 Gb RAM Intel Core2duo 2.66 Nvidia GT440 1Gb
stk2008 14 Posted September 27, 2011 What hard drive you running ARMA from and maybe defrag it.

oren_m 10 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) Well after i have done some tweaks i read about here, the game is more stable and the freezes less frequent. It satrts ok but after 1-2 minutes it freezes again for like 3 seconeds for several times and then returns to normal. Is it an Nvidia issue? ---------- Post added at 11:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:21 PM ---------- There probably isn't much you can do about it with your machine. My system specs are above minimum requierments . While the game is not frozen i'm getting above 40 FPS according to FRAPS. Beagle 684 Posted September 27, 2011 There probably isn't much you can do about it with your machine.I know of People runnign ArmA: II OA well below minimum specs with AMD X2 5000+ and ATI HD 3870...minimum speca are not natural law that cant be broken...a well set up machine just designed for gaming without all the usual OS ballast can run it well below minimum specs. oren_m 10 Posted September 28, 2011 Is there any solution for this? It's weird because i'm playing "Dead Island" on the highest graphics and it runs smoothly, and its a very new game with high requirements. I also run "World of Tanks" on high graphics... so i guess there is something with ARMA that causes such low preformance.
domokun 515 Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) Try these tweaks: a) Make sure you're running the latest patch (1.10 for A2, 1.59 for OA). The betas offer some nice improvements too! b) Edit A2's config file (something like My Documents\ArmA2\Arma2OA.cfg), find AToC=7 and change it to AToC=0 c) Tweak OA's in-game Video Settings Visibility: 15000m <= has the biggest impact so try lowering as much as possible Interface: 100% 3D res: 100% Tex: Default Vid mem: Default Anisotropic: Normal Antialiasing: disabled <= if your eyes don't bleed, otherwise "Low" ? Terrain: Normal Objects: Normal Shadows: High HDR: Medium Post-proc: Low or even Off d) Try installing these mods to scrape a few fps without sacrificing too much eye-candy: - Oktane's noBlur - SAP Clutter - GDT grass - PROPER Vegetation Tweak Visuals - PROPER Buildings Tweak Visuals e) Clean out the crap - I recommend CCleaner as it's free, light and efficient f) Defrag what's left - I recommend Defraggler as it's free, light and efficient g) Minimise your services - Gamebooster is your friend h) overclock your CPU - your Intel Core2duo 2.66 should easily be able to reach 3.0 GHz, probably 3.2 and maybe 3.4 with just air cooling Edited November 3, 2011 by domokun
oren_m 10 Posted October 11, 2011 Finally my problem was solved! Appereantly my system was infected by some kind of maleware which cause the PING.EXE process to run in background and was comsuming 99% of CPU power. After a long search and research i was able to remove it and now Arma2:OA works flawlessly! Thanks you all for the advices you gave me here and for the paticance you had. Maybe someone is haveing the same issues and this will help him.
HR4 Elite 10 Posted October 11, 2011 99% of your cpu power, makes you shudder to think, always keep checking your PC, seems so easy to get infected with this or that.. That’s the PC not me.. .

I'm geting about 7-10 fps boost with shadows turned off. Also careful with VRAM=Default, i got worst performance, while with VRAM=VeryHigh, game runs quite smooth. The only way to get stuff like that is installing something. It doesn't magically appear on your pc. There is always user error causing things like this. Never heard of a drive-by download? Especially browser plugins can get you into trouble without you knowing it. About a year ago I caught something on my HTPC simply by browsing around for movie subtitles (using the latest Firefox version at the time, btw.). The website Google landed me on looked legit enough, but then I noticed the Java icon appear in the taskbar for just a second. A few minutes later an obviously fake "Virus Alert" popped up, and it was all downhill from there. All because my girlfried had the wonderful habit of disabling NoScript completely whenever it blocked something she was trying to look at. So no, you don't have to intentionally install some crap to catch a virus/trojan.
