IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted June 4, 2002 what i like is all the crazy things and events that go along with the world cup- like the Ecuadorian coach whos had an assasination attempt Or the Korean minister who tried to sue to Belgium Supporters because they call themselves the 'red devils' which he found offensive World Cup Facts and Figures ! Yeah Baby! Youngest player to have appeared in a World Cup match, was Norman Whiteside of Northern Ireland in 1982. He was 17 years and 42 days old when he played against Yugoslavia. The oldest player, was Roger Milla of Cameroon, who was 42 years and 39 days when he played against Russia in 1994. He infact scored in that game, making him the oldest goalscorer as well! Fastest goal in a World Cup match was scored by Czechoslovakia's Vaclav Masek after only 16 seconds against Mexico in 1962. Latest goal was scored by David Platt of England, in their second round match against Belgium in 1990 after 119 minutes. First player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup match was United States's Bert Patenaude who did this against Paraguay in the first round of the 1930 World Cup. (well done USA -pity about the last 50 years )

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted June 4, 2002 If you imagine where they can train! No space at all! All they got is football pitches on sky-scrapers and somewhere in the centre of Japan on old rice-fields (up in the mountains). But in contrast to the Swiss they actually proof they can do it! (here they stick to what they are best: cheese and watches and spending money)
IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted June 4, 2002 Postduifje-(or whatever) I disagree- I dont think Brazil are as good as they used to be and yes recently theyve gone through a bad patch But their game against turkey was great to watch and Brazil played lucidly Turkey were surprisingly good but Brazil played with more flourish and had defenders doing the attacking half the time- i think it was an encourageing return. Stupid commentaries: Unknown Commentator (Soccer World Cup) "All the fans are wearing yellow shorts, it's a fantastic kaleidoscope of color." "The World Cup is truly an international event" -John Motson (Rangers vs. Hibernian) "Julian Dicks has been everywhere today. It seems the Rangers have eleven Dicks out there" Get it right ,its ENGLISH fans- the Scottish fans and northern ireland etc are not hooligans in international politics its Britain in football its England /scotland/wales (though it shouldnt be-its like Germany still playing with an east/west team )
ralphwiggum 6 Posted June 4, 2002 Albert, I think your point can be only fulfilled when there are continuous growth in Latino community. Here in Southern california, we are already experiencing lack of grounds to play, but those are amateur clubs. For footbal to be a favorite sport accepted by Americans it still needs to go long way. IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted June 5, 2002 LOL well done the USA, i said they had a slightly better team this time-Portugal were poor. Now its Ireland 0-1 down against Germany but i think Ireland are playing slightly better than Germany they should equalise at least
Die Alive 0 Posted June 5, 2002 At the end of the US game, an American got a yellow card for "wasting time", fuck that, I'm giving myself a red card for wasting my morning watching that crap. Fuck it, now NHL Stanley Cup finals are on and NBA finals are starting too. And now that Brazilian guy says he pretended to be more injured so the Turk gets a red card for kicking the ball at his legs. Fucking 3rd rate acting too, get hit in the legs with a ball and grab your face as if it was scalded with boiling water and fall down. Yeah, whatever, show me that fucking red card, I'll autograph it for ya: BEST FUCKING 3RD RATE ACTOR IN THE WORLD -=Die Alive=-
Guest Posted June 5, 2002 Disagreeing with the referees is a part of the charm with football. The game gets more interesting and you get more emotionally engaged. But I agree that it was low of Rivaldo to act that way, and there should not have been a penalty shot.
Guest Posted June 5, 2002 GOAL! Irland gets 1-1 against Germany in the 91:st minute (extension time)!! Way to go Ireland!
IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted June 5, 2002 GGGGOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL EIRE and being the Irish they will celebrate like they won that was a rush the final few seconds of play- Die Alive if youda been following/supporting Ireland and seen that ending youde take back everything youve said about football- in what other game would a 1-1 draw feel like a victory? but it does GO IRELAND

A wonderful ending for Irland against Germany!!! But Oliver Kahn - waht a goalie   (and Jancker (it was he or? ); what a ex-footballer..) And congratulations USA ; and shame on you (from what I have heard) Portugal for playing lame football (I calculated Portugal against Italy in that semi)... Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted June 5, 2002 Strange game though, very strange game! The Irish realy are lucky boys ! Anyway, there are still pretty much out of the race! If they want or not! The Germans didnt take them very seriously at the beginning, that was the mistake. All the Irish could do was kicking the ball around without realy advancing. Germany still was the better team (in terms of statistics on 1on1 fights). The USA played realy good soccer, I was surprised. Actually I have the impression that we Europeans demand to much of our players. They gotta play national league, champions-league and UEFA cup, and then they have 2 weeks to prepare for the world cup. RESULT: Most players wounded or out-powered. While France, Portugal, England, Germany, show poor results small teams (with no real own national league) show a fresh performance. That`S gotta change! (BTW: If you want I can ask the moderators to subsitute on of the countries above and add USA instead)
