Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted May 30, 2002 If you insist that another team which is not on the list will win, please state so! For the ones that dont know much about soccer: especially Argentina and Kamerun are the new silent favourites! (No, Maradona is not back! And here one comment from my side: David Beckham sucks!! IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted May 30, 2002 Actually i think the American team is getting a bit better- (though the US public will never much care till they win ) Clint Mathis and Landon Donovan(of USA) are tipped to be decent international players another few decades(ok thats a bit optimistic) /centuries? and youll probably win- Oh dear then youll REALLY see some anti-americanism Beaten by the only country that dont care about (real) football hehehe Now for the winner: England (-well what Tex said) or in the unlikely event of an England defeat France Italy Germany (Argentina will end up having to sell their boots for an air ticket home)

PitViper 0 Posted May 30, 2002 The U.S has improved dramatically in the last 5 or so years. They are at least in the top 20 teams in the world whereas they were horrible before We do have alot of players playing in Europe for various leagues.

second_draw 0 Posted May 31, 2002 I'm going for argentina despite south americans can't win in northern hemisphere (not counting 1956 or 1994, they were both when brazil was unstopable)

Also the last world cup was in france which i think helped them alot. Not that france ain't good, just that they can't win. Is it just me or does the first round of games put all the best teams against each other, eg: Nigeria - Argentina Senegal - France Brazil - Turkey b.t.w. FallenPaladin 0 Posted May 31, 2002 No, I wrote that in German, because I`m ashamed of our national team. The post was specially adressed to Albert Schweizer, but for all others here the exact translation: "It may be that I`m no patriot, but I voted for Argentinia. I don`t believe our national-nuts will be able to achieve more than quarter-finals." But I`m announcing my patriotism all the time? ...

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted May 31, 2002 Buhuuuu, yellow card there buddy one more and you are out! Damm (without sounding patriotic) I think our team is pretty strong, I think other teams are overestimated (Brasil sucked big time during the last matches, France without Zidane is like a car without wheels) and others underestimated (Ireland/ Sweden, Kamerun). You will be surprised how hard the teams will have to fight from the first match onward. The US have a "pretty okay" team! The players are a bit short and therefore not strong to win head-fights. But the major problem is that soccer is a match of 90 minutes length with only one break of 15 minutes. The american TV stations have problems to promote the matches because there is not sufficient space for commercial breaks, instead there is one which is too long. I am serious, this has been considered as one of the major marketing problems in the US for soccer! So the logical consequnce => no money! And a sport without money in the US does not develop.
