anyway to not let the server set view distance and terrain detail??

just wondering if there's anyway not not let the servers

change the view distance+terrain detail u set in ur video options

it really is annoying that u need to reset it everytime u join the server

the sliders for view distance are usually way to small to set the precise

distance u want

the settings are already setted in video options, why have it different

in multiplayer??

and some missions don't even have the option to change them,

so u have to deal with the low view distance or really bad looking

terrain with no grass.

so is there anyway to stop this??

To answer the second part of your question, some MP missions are deliberately set up like this to...

1. Make sure everyone is playing with the same settings - even playing field and all that.

2. To reduce any performance problems.

So, the answer to your question is no, not if the mission doesn't let you!

Unfortunately no way. Default behavior is server forcing its default view distance and using the default terrain detail setting, and the only way to change it is by scripting. And as far as I'm aware scripts can't read your graphic settings set in the menu.

there is indeed a way to change the viewdistance and the terraindetail settings for yourself after the mission has started.

Quite a while ago I made an addon called Instant ViewDistance (IVD) that is updated from time to time.

It allows you to change your viewdistance and terraindetail on the fly anytime you want.

This wont work on servers with signature checks unless the server obviously has the key. However if the server does not have mission scripting or has it with limitations they are highly unlikely to have the keys for addons like this or want to allow them.
