ghostnineone 10 Posted July 10, 2011 The pbos are identical, so it the server exe.The arma2.exe is different though. The reason is most likely the secuRom protection. Its kinda weird why they added it .. in arma2 itself secuRom has been removed for quite a while. My guess is that a flawed secuRom integration causes FADE to activate or their keys aren't valid for whatever reason. GMG uses their own version of secureROM (when you buy a game, and trade it in the next person that buys it get the key you had) as the DRM for all games except steamworks ones, my version of arma 2 from them was 1.10, but i had a2f installed at the time so that could be why its 1.10 if its supposed to be 1.0. one of the staff members said this "We are working on the copy protection issues, though we do need to get Capsule up and running first. Once we do, we're going to look into FADE, which is a very tricky system to work with as it's not immediately obvious from testing when there's a problem. The tech team will talk to the publishers and retest the game thoroughly on Monday."

.kju 3244 Posted July 12, 2011 UPDATE ON ARMA 2 TECHNICAL ISSUESWe have become aware that ARMA 2 (recently given away for free by GMG) is bringing up 'FADE' copy protection warnings for some ARMA 2 users. FADE is designed to stop people who pirated the game from being able to play by checking for modified game files. Unfortunately in this case, it's picking up our own security measures as a modification and triggering warnings in error. Please be assured we're working with the publishers to solve this issue - and hope to have a solution within the *next 24 hours*. Please sign up for our mailing list for more updates on the this situation, and information future DLC releases as this will be the only service mail sent out on this subject. Thank you very much for your time and understanding. From a mail
dmarkwick 261 Posted July 12, 2011 Epic fail. This is the sort of thing that gives a bad name for BIS products, while not being the fault of BIS.
.kju 3244 Posted July 12, 2011 Well to be fair they apologized and took the blame already elsewhere in this forum: Hi guys, my name is Rob and I'm a customer relations manager at Green Man Gaming.Anyone having issues with our copy of the game please be aware that this is NOT the fault of Bohemia Interactive, their staff or their customer support. This deal was made in conjunction with the games publisher, Meridian 4 and Green Man Gaming and as such Bohemia cannot provide you with customer support. The issue is being dealt with by our tech team right now and best place for information is Green Man Gaming's blog, Facebook account and forums. I can assure you the keys are legitimate and supplied by the publisher - the problems are caused by DRM problems we are working on. Ref: http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1978070&postcount=6 My take would be that it's an example of developer-publisher relations and complications. This is why digital sales via steam, sprocket also has its good sides for developers.
